hi,
i've a problem with Silent Hunter 4
The main menu in the first screen is not placed in the correct order
in fact the voices of the menu are all placed in the left upper conner and so I can only select 'Exit' option.
Also exit menu with yas/no voices is placed in this way and 'yes' and 'no' option are overplaced in the same left upper conner... do you have any idea how to solve this problem
thanks
bye

Hello,
I have read about this start problem before on here and I can't remember how it was fixed but there is a way to fix it.
Do you have the updated Directx?

1. What operating system are you guys running?

2. Do you have the latest drivers (graphic and sound) installed in your computer?

3. What refresh rate are you using, ingame must match your monitor's refresh rate.

4. Have you looked at the SHIV Guide (blow my sig) for correct proceedures to install SHIV?

Its hard to diagnose computer problems with games long distance, but we'll do our best to get you up and running guys. Please have some patience. Big Grin

When I first got the game, I played with the game resolution. It caused the same problem. I was able to fix it with some patience and experimenting. Just by playing aroung with the mouse, I was able to find the settings.

What video card drivers are you running?

Sounds like it's not jumping into a correct resolution mode. If you updated you video drivers, did you delete you previous drivers per instructions.

What resolution do you have you desktop set to?

Have you got the ingame resolution matched to that of your monitor?

I was not insinuating that you did not know how to install a game. I was simply suggesting that following the steps listed in the SHIV Guide have worked for many people to get the game running correctly.

Yes there is a newer version out, v1.5. However, it is not a patch it is an expansion disk called the UBM or U-Boat Missions.

Yes, assuming a default XP game install, go to the folder in C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\SH4\data\cfg and just open the main.cfg file with notepad, change the res setting, then save the file, it's this section you need to change:

[VIDEO]
Resolution=1024,768,60,22 *edit this line to a res your monitor can handle ok*
DynamicShadows=No
FullScreen=Yes
Synchronized=No
TextureResolutionHigh=Yes

Hi,
I'm having the same problem. The intro video etc. shows fine, but when I get to the actual program start screen, I have a light blue box in the upper left hand corner, with text superimposed on text. There's a film running perfect on the right upper half of the screen & music. The bottom half of the screen is black. A partial screenshot showing the relevant bits can be found here..
http://i235.photobucket.com/al...umpfuttock/SH4-1.jpg

If I click on the text I get the screenshot below.Again the text is superimposed.."Yes" on top of "No". When the mouse hovers over it, "Yes" appears, clicking on it exits the game.

My PC is running Win XP (sp3). and meets the game requirements. Direct X is 9.0c. The graphic card is an Asus AH3650 and has just been installed, I had the same result with the previous graphic card. I also have tried re-installing SH-4. My screen resolution is 1280 x 1024. I have tried changing the "main.cfg" file to my resolution without any difference. Also tried setting "Full screen" to "No". Tried changing the PC's screen Res, still no luck.The SH-4 version shows as V1.1.

I do hope someone can help with this problem. I have had this game for 2 years without ever getting it to run, even on another PC with Win Vista. Sad

John.
