Hello all,

I was just wondering if it was possible to get in one of the historical battles of WWII. By that I mean, when you receive the message telling you the IJN is heading to Midway and all ships should head in that direction, I tried several times to get in on the battle, but never found the IJN force, or the backup force with the Yamato. Is this just for historical simulation, or can we actually get in the battle?

I got into the battle of Leyte Gulf, which takes place in October 1944. I did it on purpose, knowing the dates and locations of the battles, but I did get one of those messages that said battle groups were moving in for the fight. The locations of the battles (Leyte Gulf was actually a number of separate naval battles and a famous 'feint' which took the Nimitz group north and out of the action) were somewhat accurate, but the order of battle wasn't exact down to the craft involved, but still it's pretty cool to see the correct type of battle group sailing through a strait at the historically correct time and place. I thought it was a pretty good balance between accuracy and playability. There are several threads on this issue on the forums here, just do a search for historical accuracy. But I have also failed to find action in the Marshalls and the Marianas, for example, despite the call for all available hands.
Good luck,
Tim O.

No, you can participate in the Battle of Midway. When your west of Midway, try heading in am ore northwest direction. I've always encountered the Japanese Fleet after it was returning to home waters. I'm sure someone will come along in a little bit and give your some better instruction for making contact with the Japanese Invasion Fleet for Midway.

I made contact with something a day later. Some betty's flew overhead. But could never get close enough to whatever it was. There's going to be a mess of destroyers...

Thanks for the replies. I will have to try to find the IJN force next time. I was thinking they were north of Midway like the Pearl Harbor attack. I will have to try the northwest route next time.

Get yer program right here! You can't tell the players without a program.

This is how the Midway battle developed.

Just tonight I sailed with the US invasion force in the Leyte Gulf, then saw a USN task force of CVEs and DDs, am now patrolling off Samar, headed for the San Bernardino Straight.

All those freighters and their escorts really take a bite out of the frame rate.

I managed to bag the Yamato off of Samar Island.

Was lucky to get away with only a damaged compressor.

Had to do something though, as Taffy 3 was out there with only DDs as surface escort.
