Im really looking forward to this title cuz of its support for 3D stereoscopy. I was just thinking if this game can use head motion tracking so we can look around corners or look left/right while gun is aiming straight. This will give total immersive feeling in the game and will literally be penned down in history as first real next gen game which supports 3D sterescopy and head Motion tracking.

I"m not fully clear on what the 3D Steroscopy is, could you elaborate?

it's typically the effect that those "red/blue" 3D glasses produce... it gives you an effect of being in a 3D environment i don't think Natal would be available any time soon... could still be years in development, could even maybe come out in the next gen xbox *which would be a couple of years* but Natal would seriously be quite amazing however they could also implement a simpler system like TrackIR |

It's cool that Project Natal promises support for "peeking round corners". We have not announced support for it in any Ubisoft games though, including AVATAR.

Yes, the storyline has been already explained by Jim in the E3 video. Here's the transcript:
The story takes place in 22nd century. Most of the action takes place on Pandora, which is not actually a planet, it’s a large moon of a gas giant planet called Polyphimeus in the Alpha Centauri A star system. Pandora is Earth-like, has lush rain forest environment and they’re filled with incredible life forms like a thousand foot tall trees, and a myriad of creatures, some of which are quite beautiful and some of which are quite terrifying which you’ll definitely see in the game. Pandora is also home to Na’vi who are a humanoid race which lives in a state that we would consider primitive, bows and arrows and primitive weapons and that sort of thing, but who ultimately prove to be much wiser than we are. The Na’vi are 10feet tall, blue skin, striped like tigers, they have long tails , they’re quite fierce looking and they can be ferocious warriors when they’re provoked, but normally as when humans are not trampling their planet, they live harmoniously in their forest environment. Now, humans can’t breath the air on Pandora so the major conceive of the story is that it was decided to create a human- Na’vi hybrid through genetic engineering and these are called the avatars. And the avatars in our story are living breathing bodies in a real world, they’re not , as the word has sort of been appropriated by the cybersphere, they’re not synthetic alter egos in cyberspace, just to be clear that its not a matrix type of story. And the avatar bodies are controlled by human driver who projects his consciousness by a technology which links their mind to the avatar body and they kind of live through that body as a kind of , in a kind of remote control, while their human body is in coma like state. So here’s our main character, Jake Sully, who was a marine who was a , wounded in combat, paralyzed, goes to Pandora, and in his avatar body, of course he can walk, he can run, he can live again. And so as the story develops he finds himself caught in between military industrial complex from Earth and the Na’vi on the other hand who are increasingly threatened by the human expansion on Pandora. And, as an avatar, living with the Na’vi he falls in love with a Na’vi girl whose name is Na’tiri, and he kind of goes deeper into their culture and becomes one of her clan, he ultimately has to choose sides in the big impending battle |

JamesCameronOnline summed it up pretty well! It's Neytiri though. Stereoscopic 3D consists of two different images overlapped onto each other. One represents the left eye and another represent the right eye. Without the glasses it's blurry but as you put the glasses it becomes sharp and the picture really has depth. Basically, it's going to be like if you were at IMAX or in a RealD theater. My only hope is that it's going to be polarized glasses and not some cheap anaglyphs...

The thought of this has made me crazy since I first saw head-tracking demonstrated. Stereo 3D + head tracking should be downright AMAZING! Being able to get propper head-tracking by itself, causes a natural 3D effect. (bobbing and weaving) Now, add stereo 3D, and you've got an added 3D sensation that movies can't even compete with.
It is my impression that Natal won't be ready untill probably fall 2010. Since the game will be out by the end of the year, I just don't see it, unless they plan for an update. Message to Ubi: Plan Ahead. |

If you are a PC gamer, you can check this out: http://www.nvidia.com/object/G..._3D_Vision_Main.html
Nvidia has already started offering 3D devices but no game on consoles have been 3D yet! Bear in my mind that for playing Avatar in 3D, you are going to need a monitor or a HDTV capable of frequencies above 120Hz. Maybe less than that, the game just runs at 30 fps but... |

There is also a new head-tracking device for PC called TrackIR 5: http://www.naturalpoint.com/tr...r/products/trackir5/
Take a look at the video with the supported game Arma 2: http://www.giantbomb.com/news/...g-with-arma-ii/1490/ I don't know if it supports any games that are also supported by Nvidia at present. Personally, I'm a console gamer. I like standards before buying equiptment. I'm looking forward to Natal. There are so many possibilities there. I think that stereo 3D just opens up these possibilities even farther. I'm also really interested to see just how far both Microsoft and Sony go, as far as supporting 3D as a standard. Sony has yet to come to a Blu-ray 3D spec, and MSFT is about to expand its online movie offerings, but has mentioned nothing about 3D. I find it odd that there hasn't been a statement yet from Microsoft, and Sony kind of only said that "its coming". I was hoping for some formal announcements at E3, but nothing. Surly since Avatar is supporting 3D for at least one of these systems, (both?) there should be an official statement about compatability from these console manufacturers, am I right? That, or will the stereoscopic part of Avatar game just go under the radar? |

Being new to this forum, I don't want to impose, but I suggest that since this thread is specifically about head tracking + 3D, how about just keeping this about specifically head tracking and Cameron's Avatar game?
So far, the options would be:
Everything else is off-topic, IMO. |
