Seeing as how the servers aren't starting up, might as well post something here.
Okay, so I was big fan of Raven Shield. Among many other brilliant things in that game which UBI have mysteriously not seen fit to emulate in the sequels, in Raven Shield's terrorist hunt you could take out the enemy without them knowing where you were for the most part. This was done by not using frag grenades, walking instead of running (enemies could hear your footsteps if you ran - something most players of the game amusingly still don't realise) and also using silenced guns. Is this possible in RVS2? Seems that even if I am walking slowly and use a silencer to take out the first guy before he even sees me, I am immediately swamped by six other guys who instantly and mysteriously know my location. Does my suit have a GPS on it that the enemy is hacking into? Do I have body odour issues? Is it my pheromones because I just look so damn sexy with silenced guns? Which brings me to the question, why use a silencer? All it seems to do is reduce your damage, it doesn't even seem to increase accuracy (like a silencer does in real life, because it extends the barrel). There is the looking cool factor of course, and I prioritise looking cool very highly so I will continue to use one, BUT I would feel better if I knew the silencer actually had a practical purpose in the game. Also, does walking instead of running actually have a function in this game like it did in Raven Shield? [insert the usual extremely valid and intelligent, often-repeated-to-deaf-ears complaints about how UBI have dumbed down a once-great franchise here] Thanks in advance, guys. |

The silencer reduces damage, recoil, muzzle flash and sound.
I always use a silencer too, just not on my pistol because it is too weak. As far as taking out one terrorist silently, I don't really remember if I had the same problem as you because once I beat the story mode, I only play multiplayer. :s |

I can tell you why this is. Perhaps you've noticed that sometimes when you walk into a room, millions of bad guys home in on your position. This is because they've done away with the old, 'Bad guys are in the map already.' approach in favor of a, 'When you hit a trigger, bad guys are suddenly spawned in front of or behind you and are all made aware of your exact position.' approach.
They're cheating, basically. You see a room, it's empty, but when you enter the room, you hit a trigger on the floor that makes the empty room fill with bad guys who suddenly know where you are, spontaneously initiating a zombie movie style rush. You've probably noticed that if you run into a room, trigger the spawn, and then run out and approach the room from another entry point, that all the bad guys are aiming at where you were and have no clue where you are now. It's because they don't know how to find you except for, A.) the noise you make, and B.) the knowledge of where you were when you hit the trigger. They know exactly where you were when you hit that trigger and that's it. This applies also to shooting people and gunfire. Bob the terrorist doesn't know where you are. He's standing across the room with his back turned, and his friend, Ted, is suddenly shot in the head by you. Bob and all his friends instantly know where you are because the game says, 'Move you idiots, the player has revealed himself!' and they home in on you, regardless of the fact that the bots don't communicate or weren't even in the room when Ted was shot. A silencer does no good because of the way the game was built, unfortunately because, no matter what an AI terrorist sees, the game fills in the gaps for him. So all of these problems stem from the fact that the terrorists aren't actually in the map until you spawn them by hitting a trigger, and the measures Ubisoft took the mitigate the fact that they actually have no brains, forcing the game to feed them information to keep them competent, which leads to them barreling through doors into a stream of gunfire only to shoot you in the face with a shotgun - something no human being faced with certain death would do. In short, the bots are incredibly dumb. Your position in the map is updated to them every time you fire you gun, but if you can avoid line of sight with them and don't make much noise, they realistically don't know where you are. But once you reveal yourself by doing damage to one of them, even if your gun supposedly didn't make any noise, you have initiated contact and so they home in on you again. The silencer has become a novelty item. Rest in peace, silencer. Edit: A good example is this. In Vegas One terrorist hunt, playing the bank vault level, I ran as fast as I could through all the rooms and hit all the triggers. All the bad guys spawned and were sitting in the map, much like in the original Rainbow Six games. At this point, if I fire a gun, *EVERY* bad guy on the map knows where you are and will rush at you from every possible opening. Obviously the game was made for you to clear every room as you go, but when bypassing this and trying to trigger as many spawns as possible, you realize the stupidity of this whole thing. AI should not know where I am on the other side of the map when I hit one of them with a silencer. -You know?- |

T-DiNozzo have you ever considered a job with UBI ? You sound like you should be on the design team (I mean you could be the design team).I have learned more from what you have written than all the lame support I have seen from UBI. Thanks for sharing, things are a little clearer now. I still like my AK with the silencer. Good gaming. And thanks again.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. |

Yep, that's why I don't bother with Terrorist Hunt in either vegas 1 or 2.

We have been complaining about all of the above since the Vegas series.
But .. Ubisoft thinks they know what we want, and they will produce what they think works or is easiest for them! They haven't listened to one thing gamers have posted in these forums for months .. Years???!!!!! The only thing left of the Vegas series are the few gamers left in this forum. (And many of us no longer play this game) |

I thought I`d have a run at this game. I`ve been ignoring it cos I had a bad feeling about what i`d get.
I used to play the original Rainbow 6 games a lot and you`re dead right with this new one. What I liked about the originals was that terrorists were already placed on the map and didn`t all know where you were, but i`ve seen, just like you said: an empty room suddenly filled with enemies when I step across a `trigger`. Sad changes made just for console. And I notice that rainbow `six` has become rainbow `three` as well. There are also MANY other things I don`t like (lack of planning tactics for one), but I won`t go thru that here. Good thing I bought it for a Fiver in the bargain bin or I`d really be annoyed. |
