ports opened up? (Port Forwarding)

have you been online before? has anything changed since then?

check servers now. mine is up. try to join it
(look for dfmafia in title/host)

its an R6V server (i dont have R6V2)

are you behind a firewall? same answer from my first reply...a quick search on these forums or even google would provide the same information i give here...

the game requires these ports to be opened/forwarded.
UDP - 3478, 3479, 3658
TCP - 80, 443, 3478, 3479,3480, 5223, 8080

its not a vista issue. fresh install of vista and 0 issues here. on an old vista install on another rig, no problems there either.

most online games will require open ports for internet connectivity, communication to servers and hosts/clients. firewalls can block some of the requests. usually ping requests. this is why you are not seeing ping times. it should not prevent you from joining a server.
routers and modems will have a NATS firewall built in. you can access this by typing in your IP or network address in a browser.
examples: http://192.168.1.1 http://192.168.1.101 http://192.168.1.102 so on and so forth. usually the first will be your network address. if you have more computers on the network it could be a different number.

to find yours go to start menu, run... and type ipconfig it should display your mac address, ip address and network address.

now these NAT firewalls will usually have a username and password to login. username will most likely be admin. the password is most often password, admin or blank (no text). should be detailed in the manual.

every router is different in how they implement their firewalls. but youre looking for portforwarding.

2 ports were open
i configured router
still not working

for grins i hit tilde~ key when i had a black screen with no error message and saw PB was attempting to work....never had a PB problem before but I will turn off PB and try again.

still no joy
all i get is connection to host errors... lost connection....awaiting connections....and black screens forever...and occasionally the game locks up entirely.

thank you so much for trying to help me get online.

i always enjoyed playing rainbow six ravenshield online...and i was looking forward to this one also. but i guess i just cannot play online.

ill try again later after i get done banging my head into the nearest wall

thx

looking at the other posts for R6V2, there have been a lot of issues with this. many people had problems. its the main reason why the game is cheap and noone plays online.

i dont have the game. it would be a waste of money to get it. i have R6V and though its similar it doesnt have near the problems R6V2 has.

if the game is locking up on 2 computers, then its a problem with the game.

sorry but it looks like youre out of luck unless someone else actually visits the forums and can help. ubi got youre money and laughed to the bank with a crap game.

/rant

EVERY console port to PC is sh|t, no matter who makes it, it doesnt work and i dont understand why companies are still doing it. some products are fun, yet no game has ever been smooth from console to PC. consoles are quick easy money for game companies. children usually dont research about a game before they buy it. completely impulse and the game companies are banking on that.

console games are childs play. easy for devolopers to knock a game out in a couple of months. where as PC games take many months to even years. better graphics, sound quality/enviroment, stability than consoles. just plain a better product and more engaging.

ubi is a console game maker first and pc game maker last (2nd just isnt enough) they need to go back to school and learn how to code for PC. they ruined the R6 franchise for the true fans.

sorry i got off topic but what can you expect from a console to PC port. very buggy game with no support.

Before you try to play online, on the main screen click on the "login" option, it should say 'activating network' or something like that. Should take you to the login/password screen.
After you click login again it should either tell you it logged in or display an error message.

Remember, try this before going to any game option and let us know what error says.. if any.

rvsjdc,
It sounds like you have something blocking your connection.

Try bypassing your router and connect directly to your modem.
That will eliminate any problems with the router.

Most DSL modems have built in routers so you may still have to open ports in the modem if you have DSL.
Some are straight forward while others are not at all user friendly for forwarding ports.
Cable modems don't have built in routers, so if it is a router problem and you have cable, you might want to find the problem as you will be more vulnerable without the hardware firewall of the router.

Go to control panel .. security center .. firewall .. exceptions tab.
Make sure Tom Clancey's Rainbow 2 Vegas 2 is there and checked.

Check any anti virus software or other programs that may be blocking your connnection.

Even with a router you shouldn't have to open ports to play .. only to host.

Hope you find your problem!
Good luck!
