Ok so I finally got a new graphics card and stuff, and Installed this game yesterday, and was really excited to play it. I had no problems installing it, and with my new hardware, I should be able to run it at full settings. The autopatcher worked fine, and I started the game with no problems.
However, right from the start, I noticed that the menus and everything were extremely laggy. I turned all of the settings down as low as I could, and still, nothing worked like it should. So, I did some searching, and found some people who said that patch 1.03 caused problems. I uninstalled the game and tried again, this time cancelling the autopatcher. However, this time I got the GPF error that others have talked about. So I upgraded to 1.02, which I already had on my computer, and had heard was very functional. While the menus still are a bit slow, the gameplay is definitely better (still not great, but ok). BUT, now every ~10 seconds, the game automatically gives orders to my team (as if I am pressing "space" every 10 seconds). I figured I might be able to work around it, but I can't even do anything, because they run onto my grenades, and out in the open, and I lose if they die. Oh, and I haven't even tried online yet, I just want to start off with Story and TH. Is that so much to ask? |

go to options and switch off the "voice recognition" thingy, solved my issue with that

You didn't mention what graphics card you bought?!
I have never had lag problems in the menu or in single player with 1.03 and I have this installed on several systems. The problem you describe does sound like a graphics issue and can be caused by proper drivers not being installed or a video card that isn't capable! The lag always comes in multiplayer when you aren't hosting!! That said .. I never use auto update! Just download 1.03 .. install the game and update from that file before running the game. Also, download and install the map pack (Funpack)and Comcast Event maps. Now you will likely have to do a complete uninstall and reinstall first .. with a complete clean of the registry!! Make sure you have the latest drivers for your card! In video settings, try setting antialiasing to None and V sync Off. Voice recognition Off. Xbox controller Off Then play with other settings. As longbow mentioned .. I always disable the voice chat (Multiplayer) since I have a Teamspeak server! Good luck!! You aren't the only with this and many more problems .. If that makes you feel any better!! |

Hi!
I have 3 problems. The first problem: when I play with the game in single and online, sometimes a window called "message" kills my game. What is this message? The second problem: Now(2009.04.16)I can't Login to the Ubisoft server. I made a new account but I couldn't login with them. The third problem: I can't paint my clothes and armor in the game. I have 6 colours to use but I didn'T find how to use them. Please write to me how to use them! |

System specs:
NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 2GB RAM Pentuim 4 2.8GHz dual processors (rated at 4.2GHz) The drivers I already had should have been sufficient, but I upgraded them just in case. I still experience the lag. It's about .5-2second lag whenever I move the mouse. Keywise it's better, but still .5-1second. Also, it looks like I have to toggle the "voice recognition" thing every time. It works to get the game to stop sending random commands, but every time I load it, I have to turn it on and off, otherwise it still happens. Why would I have to uninstall it again? If I upgrade it to 1.03, I can do so from 1.02. |

Hold on .. I'm trying to do some research for you!
The only reason you would have to do an complete uninstall and reinstall is if you had a corrupt file somewhere .. especially in the registry! I have seen it happen many times and I have had to do it on one of my systems! |

Ok .. I pretty much found what I was looking for, but wanted to confirm my suspicions before posting.
Your 8400GS is a very minimal card for modern games. You would likely have to run at 800x600 (640x480 if you have that option) or lower and turn most everything down or off. If you have wide screen, then something comparable! Here is a chart from Tom's Hardware. http://www.tomshardware.com/ch...Duty-4-v1.6,741.html If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you will see that it runs COD 4 at 1280x1024 with no AA and high settings (There is no option for low settings) at 14.3 FPS and COD 4 is a much better optimized game than Vegas 2. With the same settings your 8400GS runs Crysis at 3.6 FPS http://www.tomshardware.com/ch...rysis-v1.21,747.html Crysis does take more horsepower! Games may be playable at 15 FPS (Sort of) but I like to maintain over 30 FPS at minimum because there are always areas in games where frame rate will drop dramatically. If you could borrow something like an 8800GT or the newer 9800GT or better to test with, I believe you would see a big difference! Vegas 2 is a poorly optimized game and I think you are fighting an uphill battle with that card! Sorry . But that's just my opinion!! If you could afford it, this is a great card for the money. This has the new 55nm core 216!! http://www.newegg.com/Product/...ds-_-LE4B-_-14150361 Comes with 2 games including FC2, (More problems from Ubisoft) Mirrors Edge and 3D Mark advantage. Also .. Free shipping! But make sure you have a capably PSU!! This card would definitely do the trick and keep you up to date for another 2-3 years!! |

Hey BlueWall, I will do the best I can to help! #1 I would have to know more about what his says. Just "Message" doesn't help much! #2 Have you been able to login in the past? The Ubisoft master server goes down on a regular basis, and Ubisoft won't or can't seem to fix the problem in over 2 years since Vegas 1! Keep trying and see if it works later. It would also help if you have a friend who can try to connect to see if it is you or the server! #3 You have to be Elite to create custom camo! If you are there, then you should have an option for 3 custom camo profiles! Click on one. This should give you an option for color 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. Start with 1 You now have 30 color variations. Select the one you like. Then select color 2 and do the same thing. Then 3 .. then 4 There is a preview on the side that shows what each selection will look like. When you finish ..click Accept Camo Now when you setup your camo, click on the gear icon to the right, scroll to your custom camo you created .. select it .. then select Accept Camo Hey Guys .. I don't play this game any longer, (but I still try to help players who have problems with this game), so I may be a little off on my instructions!!! Sorry if I'm not always clear with everything. |

Oh man, are you serious? I literally JUST got this card this week, because everything I read told me that it would meet the recommended settings for basically all of the games that I wanted. I'm not that concerned with having the BEST graphics, I just want it to work... I will try lowering the resolution though. Also, what is the console command to display the fps? |
||||
|
The tests tell the story on your cards potential.
I don't know that there is an option to show frame rate in Vegas 2, but you can download a tool called FRAPS that will do that and much more!! http://fraps.com/ |

I only have PCI on my machine, no PCI express, so that card you suggested wouldn't work. From what I looked at on NewEgg, there isn't a card for PCI that would be decent on the benchmark list for COD4...
Looks like I am SOL. |

Are you sure you have PCI?.
I would have to check, but I don't believe their is an 8000 series card in PCI. PCI is really old!! I will check though!! Did some checking! Are you sure you don't have PCIe?? PCI is a short white slot and you should have several under your graphics card. PCIe is much longer and usually black, but could be another color. I don't believe Nvidia made an 8400GS in AGP and certainly not in PCI. Check your system! There are lots of PCIe cards much better than the 8400GS. That really isn't a gaming card!! An 8800 series would be good but hard to find now. If you go 9000 series, go at least 9800GT, that is basically a re-numbered 8800GT. With the P-4 .. 2.8 I would guess you have at least AGP, but with that card, I think you have PCIe. Could be wrong, but I can't find an AGP 8400GS. Maybe someone else here has better information??? |

Yes, I am positive I have PCI. Here is the card I bought:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...Item=N82E16814133245 Also, my machine was built in 2002. I didn't know they made them that fast then either, or dual processor for that matter. |

|
That's a new one on me!
Too bad because the only way to upgrade would be a new motherboard, CPU, and memory .. and a new PCIe card!! Nice to know there is a decent PCI card though if someone wanted to upgrade an old machine and didn't care about gaming. Sorry for the misinformation .. I have never seen an 8000 series card in PCI and all of the forums I checked said there wasn't one! I learned something new!! Thanks for posting back! |

Haha no problem, and thanks for all of your help and information too! I still haven't had a chance to try playing at a lower resolution, but I will post here once I try it.
