I am new to game playing and to Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I am in the first part of the game and have come to a place to rappel I can get on the rope but can not descend. Please help me understand what keys to use or commands I am stuck. Thank you for your help.

I tried the directions given. No luck. I am on a PC. I can get on the rope. I can direct the team, I can swing around head first using the “C” key but I still can not move down. The “space bar” allows me to push off the wall (jump). When I hit the “W” key I move back up the rope on over the fence and on to the walk again. The directions say “use forward and back to move up and down the wall” on the PC this would be the “W” & “S” keys right? Do you use them in combination with another Key? Should I be in some sort of mode or something? Are there anymore settings to check? I am still stuck. Thank for the help, maybe you have more info.

When you're rappelling down the wall press 'S' to go down and 'W' to go up. When you want to abseil down the wall press the spacebar to 'climb out'. When you've climbed out, you should see a sign that says 'jump'. When you see that, press the spacebar and then the 'S' button quickly after that. Another way to do it is to press space and 'S' together and you should abseil down. It just takes a little practice is all!

Also, I spotted an error in my other post.... When you're upside down, you still press 'W' to go up and 'S' to go down... My bad!

PS- When you're upside down, you can't abseil... You can only walk up or down the wall.

Once you get on the rope, you should be able to move down with whatever key you have bound to that function.

It should be the same key you have bound for moving backward.
Check your controls to make sure you haven't changed it.

You can bind functions to any keys you like.

I have always preferred the arrow keys to the WSAD keys .. and set all other functions around those.

Thank you for hanging in there with me. I made a successful rappel and breach. It gave me a good feeling. It was unbelievably straightforward once I knew what keys and when to hit them. What must have seemed very simple for all of you was very confusing to me. I was very frustrated with the experience at first. I thank you for your support. I guess the best thing I can do is try to do the same for someone else. It probably won’t be long before I will run into something else but thank you again for helping me.
