Infinity Ward announces that COD Modern Warfare 2 will NOT have dedicated PC server support.
Codemasters Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising does NOT have dedicated PC server support. Rumor has it that EA Games is not going to have dedicated PC server support in Battlefield 3. All of a sudden UBI Soft doesn't look that bad especially considering both Farcry 2 AND Vegas 2 have PC Dedicated server support. Sure it's insanely inflexible and horribly buggy but at least it exists. Right now I feel that Vegas 2 with all the community patches (SADS server crash fix, Highstakes mode fix, etc) is the best verses mode FPS game out for the PC. The more I play it the more I appreciate the game. COD4 hardcore mode isn't bad it just isn't a tactical shooter by any stretch of the imagination. Don't get me wrong Vegas 2 isn't a pure blooded 100% tactical shooter either but it's a lot closer then anything else out there at the moment (at least anything that has Dedicated Server support). I predict there will be an uprising in the PC market in the next 2-3 years once the console retards completely take over the multiplayer PC market. Personally I will not purchase a game from any company that does not release a dedicated server for the FPS PC Games. ------------------------------ http://www.squadgames.com Home of the PC Rainbow Six prize Tournaments. Agree, but Vegas 2 bugs should be fixed. This would be a lot better game because this is more realistic than CoD or Battlefield and that's why I play this more than them.

Support provided by you and your team .. not Ubisoft! Co-op T-Hunt has no SADS and the netcode is the worse I have seen. If played with proper rules .. hard core, no bunny hopping, etc., COD WaW is a far better playing game in both co-op and MP. And the number of servers and players compared to Vegas 2 verify that fact! Vegas 2 is lucky to have 1% of the servers and players of WaW. |

Don't get me wrong....
I'm not saying UBISoft is great by any stretch of the imagination. I am just saying that right now I find myself enjoying Vegas 2 over any other FPS game for a number of reasons. If the community fixes weren't in place however, I doubt any of us would still be playing it. The community released fixes (and I'm probably missing some) that UBI Soft should have fixed: #1. SADS (which they did release in Vegas 2 from the jump after a community member got it working in Vegas 1) #2. Vegas 2 Server crash fix #1 - Custom Camo (which they eventually did fix on their own a few months later) #3. Vegas 2 Server crash fix #2 #4. Vegas 2 Highstakes mode fix The next year looks pretty dark for FPS games with most of the major publishers opting NOT to release Dedicated Servers for the PC Gamers. ------------------------------ http://www.squadgames.com Home of the PC Rainbow Six prize Tournaments. I agree completely. My group plays COD4 in hc mode with Openwarefare mod and we get the game closer to the feel of Ravenshield than anything out there. IW is going to find out the hard way, just like UBI has, that you can't come out with a new version of a game that has less than the old version did. Vegas 2 was dead before it hit the shelves. Even with the community trying to plug a few holes, Vegas 2 still has teams of multicolored mercenaries running around on the same dozen maps. Without a map editor and a SADS that server farms aren't afraid to run, it is just another bad console port. I also think companies are underestimating the number of console game sales they get due to a good PC version of that game existing. When you have clans, server farms, mappers, modders, competitions, and news articles giving free positive publicity about a PC game that can only positively effect the sales of the console versions as well. When I bad mouth Vegas or COD MW2, I do not just specify the PC versions. ******************** What makes a good Strategic FPS game? Go to: www.strategicfps.com ******************** |

if only they would have added select fire and working doors in cod4, I would never leave it.
till the next FPS came out, of course |

Nice comments; our group of players are still playing R6V2 (especially in Terrorist Hunt) for an intense game of teamwork.
Like a tailgate party really, the suds are always flowing. |

COD4 in every generic flavor (HC or standard) is pretty bad.
Even with rules you still have a game that feels more like Super Mario Bros or Beachhead 2000 then a Rainbow Six title. It's pretty awful to be honest. This is coming from someone who played it regularly for a decent period of time. Don't get me wrong HC mode makes it tolerable to some extent. I will have to check out that Openwarfare mod. I have not tried COD4 with it. COD6 with no Dedicated server however pretty much rules me out of playing it completely. I am not "happy" with Vegas 2 but I am "satisified" with it for now. Highstakes mode makes the game much more tactical then any rendition of COD4 or CS Mod (with the exception of Insurgency) and the game plays fairly well even vs. overseas players. Operation Flashpoint having no CD Key verification or Dedicated server pretty much eliminates itself before it even has a chance unfortunately. Hopefully we will all see the rebirth of PC FPS tactical shooters in 2010. Otherwise we might be stuck with new console garbage. ------------------------------ http://www.squadgames.com Home of the PC Rainbow Six prize Tournaments. Vegas 2 tournament TBA. |
