I spent some time on the Fear 2 Forums to see if the multiplayer PC version of the game is worth getting for a fan of Old School tactical games like the original 3 Rainbow Six Games.
Apparently, they screwed up Fear even more than UBI screwed up Rainbow Six with Vegas. Fear 2 removed Lean No dedicated server support No map maker Added some "Mech" that is even available in MP that nobody asked for No Punkbuster anti-cheat Added Health Regen and bunny hopping Apparently, the original Fear had the effect that when someone was shot the bullet hole/wound would appear right where the bullet actually hit and it would also spray some blood off the wound in the direction the bullet came from. They didn't do that with Fear 2. That sounded like a pretty cool feature and a way to tell where a bullet came from if you see a team member get hit but can't hear where the bullet came from or see a tracer. I guess there is nothing on the horizon for tactical shooter lovers other than that next COD game if it has a hardcore mode. I don't count the Blackfoot Studios stuff because it could come out in 2012 or never for all we know. I appreciate their efforts but without a real budget I don't know how they can produce. |

I really enjoyed me some SWAT4 with their zip ties. Anything on the horizon from that end? Haven't heard anything...

I've had a google news alert set up to tell me when anything about Swat5 comes out, and nothing has.
I enjoyed some aspects of Swat 4, but the cheating, slower movement that didn't feel quite right, and small hallways kept me from really enjoying the game. It also seamed too geared toward respawning. I did like zip-tieing and pepper balling people though. |
