Yesterday Vegas 2 was working just fine, today I try to play it and instead of the game opening, an Internet Explorer page pops up that says
"This program cannot display the webpage" wtf does internet explorer (which I dont even use, I use Firefox) have to do with clicking on the .exe file to play the game? Please help, I really really like this game and I cant play it I've tried restarting my comp, and re-installing the game and its still doing it. FYI i have the D2D version. System: Asus P5k SE motherboard, core 2 duo e8400, EVGA 8800gt 512mb This message has been edited. Last edited by: Sphincterman, |

Dude you seem to have major problems. This is just a guess on my part but when you install Vegas it puts a bunch of stuff in you registry. You have to clean all the garbage out when you reinstall. So you have to clean out all the crap to get going again.
Note of caution be carefull when working in the registry as you can make a real mess of your puter with one keystroke. So If I were you I would wait for a post from Lethal 1940 before progressing. Help please Lethal !!! If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. |

Hey Sphincterman,
What are you using to launch the game? It kind of looks like whatever you are using has had the link to the game.exe changed! Before making serious changes, try this first. Try following this path to see if that will work: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2\Binaries Then double click this file: R6Vegas2_Game.exe I don't use the D2D version on any of my machines so I am assuming the path is the same as the DVD version. Good luck and let us know if that helps. Also, make sure you are patched to 1.03 and have the fun pack and Comcast maps installed. The full uninstall and reinstall is a little complicated because of the need to fully clean the registry. There is a thread here somewhere that I explained that proceedure in step by step. Make sure you export your entire registry if you decide to go that route. If you mess something up, you can import the old one. |

Lethal, I have tried launching the game from that location as well and I still get the same problem. After I uninstalled I tried launching the unpatched game, and still, same problem but as of now it is the updated version to 1.03.
I do not have the additional maps, if those might help the problem i'd like to download them but dont know where to get them. here is a screenshot of the problem http://i69.photobucket.com/alb...an57/r6v2problem.jpg as you can see I tried to open the game from the directory you mentioned but instead of the game opening I get this internet explorer screen. If you dont have any other ideas what is causing this, I guess I'll have to uninstall, and do the registry thing. In the mean time, I will try to find that thread. |

Hey Sphincter,
That has my vote for one of the strangest problems I have seen! The maps shouldn't make any difference in launching the game, you will need them for online play! For some reason, it seems your game.exe is linked to a web site. Could you right click on that file, select properties, and see how big it is? Mine is 29 MB. You may have to do a complete uninstall and then a complete clean of your registry. It is possible you have some bad registry entries. Or possibly even a virus has taken over! Have you run a virus scan with a good anti-virus software? I will do some research, but I have never seen that problem before. If it is a serious virus, your only solution may be a reformat and reinstall of Windows. Here is something to think about for the future. I use a program called Acronis True Image 11 Home. I make complete backups of my hard drive every time I install a new program or update games, programs, or drivers. It makes a mirror image of your drive, and you can restore it to exactly the way it was, if you have a problem. I also use it when I build new systems. That saves a lot of time if you encounter a problem after everything is installed. No more reformats and reinstalls. I know it won't help now, but something to think about. There are other good backup programs, so you can do some research. Let us know what happens with your game. |

thanks lethal. In looking on google i found that this has happened with a Call Of Duty game to one person, and he never found a solution to the problem.
What I find weird is that for 2 weeks or so the game was perfectly normal...then just one day this started happening. And yes my .exe file is also 29.0 MB. I ran a virus scan last night and my system came out clean as a whistle. I guess the situation now is to do the "complete uninstal", registry items included. I've already made a back up copy of my game save folder so I wont lose my progress. I'll wait for one last response from you. If you dont have any better ideas, I will go ahead with the uninstall. Thanks for the help so far |

Here are links to a couple of old threads that deal with clean install.
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...381061876#1381061876 This one will be most useful. http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...571060147#8571060147 There will be lots of entries!! There should be a law that requires game and software companies to remove everything they install when you uninstall!! There is another option I would like to have you try to see if that isolates the problem, but I'm not allowed to mention it here. Sorry! Hope you get it fixed. |
