ok for some reason i when i put the disk into my pc so i can play R6V2 i got a message saying something like "please insert correct disk and restart application" the game only came with one disk and the disk is in good condition and up to this point the game worked perfectly! so i decided to uninstall the game and reinstall and see if that fixes it. I thought it would except another messaged poped up saying "please insert disk 0 that contains the file data3.cab". Ive looked around on other forums and sites but i still cant fix it or reinstall the game!
so im asking if anyone out there can help me or give me some advice as to what i should do.

It sounds like when you reinstalled, there is now a file missing.

The first message you received is a known problem in the game and is caused by copy protection used by Ubisoft.

If you have virtual drives, that can create the first message.
Also, some SATA DVD drives won't read the Vegas 2 disk but IDE drives will.

There is also one other solution to the "insert disk problem" that I can't mention here.
Ubisoft actually posted a fix on their web site long ago but removed it when it was found to not be theirs.

You might have to reinstall again to correct the second problem.
Try reinstalling without uninstalling first.
That may install the missing file.

You might also try installing the 1.03 patch.
That may install the missing file.

The last option would be to do a complete uninstall, including deleting everything pertaining to Vegas 2 from the registry.

That is a whole other story, so try everything else first .. then let us know if anything helped.

BTW:
Too late now, but I always back up my hard drive with Acronis Home when everything is working good.
That way all you have to do is restore your hard drive to the exact state it was when you did the back up.
There are other good back up programs and they can prevent such problems as you are having now.

thanks for the info lethal1940. it was helpful. i got it working again. but not anyway way you mentioned.

Here's my theory. On the 1st of september i DLed a new virtual driver. I always had one all the time which i used but i was told to try this other one! SO i got it and used it! Later i tried playing TCV2 and had the problems posted above. In some forums they mentioned things about copyright so i uninstalled the new virtual drive but to no avail. What I forgot to do was restart the PC so that the unistallation will take effect.

I haven't reinstalled the new virtual drive again and so today when I was able to install the game again.....but alas im still ****ed off!!

My Character and stats ARE GONE!!
fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff rage

I know this almost sounds impossible but am I right to assume that there's no way to get my old character back?

I have one more question.
If i use the new driver again BUT uninstall it before I start R6V2.....would i get the same problem or will it be o.k?

I probably should experiment that myself but i would appreciate your opinion!
THANK YOU AGAIN!

I believe I did mention a virtual drive could create your problem in my post above.

I would suggest backing up this folder to another drive, or at least another area of your drive.
C:\Documents and Settings\Default\My Documents\My Games\Ubisoft\R6Vegas2

This contains your key and other data.

When you say "If I use a new driver again". are you referring to a virtual drive?
If so, it likely would create the same problem.
The copy protection Ubisoft uses treats virtual drives as if you are a pirate!

My best suggestion would be as I advised above .. use a good backup program to backup your entire drive before making any changes.

Acronis has saved my tail more than once.

I use it when building new computers.
First when I get it up and running, then after all drivers and updates are installed.

I then backup before installing games, and even game patches.
I have had a game install or patch totally mess up a computer.
This program creates a mirror image of your hard drive so you can restore it to the exact same state it was in before the problem.
Backup before installing any program or making any major change.

You can also clone your hard drive to another hard drive.
(many more functions also)

That really comes in handy if you need to upgrade to a larger drive.
If your old drive is partioned, it will create new partitions in proportion to the size of your old ones, or you can actually resize as you please.

This sure beats a re-format and new install.

If you ever want to start with a clean install, just go back to the file when you built the system and after you updated everything.
You would still have to bring drivers up to date, but it sure beats a complete new install.

It takes a lot less time to backup your drive before a major change, than to go through all the problems to get things working again.

I am not pushing Acronis .. it just happens to be the program I use and am familiar with.
I'm sure there are more good ones out there and IMO, they are very important!
(Unless you enjoy crashed programs and games and re-formatting and new installs)

Awesome thanks for the info! You really know what your talking about. Where does Acronis actually backup your programs to? And Ive noticed Acronis costs quite a bit of money and I know I may sound like a cheap skate but do you happen to know of any other FREE backup software out there or would I be better off getting Acronis?

And sorry for messaging back so late! I was away for a while and didn't have access to a PC!

Acronis really isn't that expensive when you consider everything that it does.
$38.99 with free shipping!
(Cheaper than a good game)

You can backup programs or your entire hard drive anywhere you choose, but it would be smart to backup to a second hard drive, or even an external hard drive.
You could also partition your hard drive if you have only one drive, and save the file to the partition.

I always partition my drives into 3 partitions
C:, D:, and E:
C: is used for operating system and most programs.
D: is for games only
E: is for downloads, and storage.
This would also be a good one to put the Acronis image on.

Then I often install a second drive just to be safe.
This would be the safest drive to save your backup images on.

You can also create a boot disk with Acronis.
If you have a major crash and your computer will no longer boot to Windows, you can use the Acronis boot disk to recover.

I am not aware of a good free backup program but give me a little time to do some research and check with some people who may be able to help.

Just checked the Acronis Home page and here is some information that may answer some of your questions.
There is also a 15 day fully functional free trial so you can see if you like it before you buy.

I have a similar problem but the game won't install at all. I get the same insert disk 0 message. Any suggestions?

BTW, this is on a fresh install of XP so no old copies of the game.

Nope, no virtual drive. I have a fresh install of xp + sp3 about 2 months old. I've never put in a virtual drive. I'm FAIRLY sure I had the game installed before on my old windows install.

What extra info would you require?

Corwyn did you do anything to your pc before you tried the game?
Like install new software or anything?
If you did try un-installing it and then restart your pc. That might do it. Then theres the chance that the actual disk is to blame. Check for scratches and marks and maybe you should try the same game disk on another pc to see if theres a problem with the pc or the game disk. If it doesnt work on the other PC then its the game disk and I suggest returning it!

Hey Corwin.
When you say you did a fresh install, did you reformat your hard drive first, or just reinstall Windows, or maybe upgrade?

If you didn't reformat first, you may have some corrupt files left over.

Check your program files to see if there is an Ubisoft folder.
Also check your registry to see if there are any entries for Ubisoft.

Click Start:
Run:
Type: regedit

In the Registry Editor:
Select: Find
Type: Ubisoft
Then click on: Find Next

If you find Ubisoft anywhere, you will likely need to do a complete uninstall and a total clean of your registry.

Let us know what you find!

I started a thread here somewhere with help on removing entries from your registry.

Always export your entire registry before making any changes, and also be very careful in here as you can really mess things up very easily!
