I've never bought any of the BiA games, but I'm now considering getting the first two in anticipation of the third. Is it still worth having the older games? I've heard that the AI in Road to Hill 30 in particular is very static and too easy to flank. Have any improvements to this been made via mods or patches? I really want to play the story from the start!

Edit: PC version. Also, does anyone know of a plan to release a BiA boxset?

Question:
Is it still worthwhile it to get the older BiA games?

Choices:
Yes
No
Road to Hill 30 only
Earned in Blood only

If you have the money and a good PC, then why not? They are great games , especially on the PC, and should be played by anyone who wants a good tactical shooter. Play them if you have a chance and have fun. I still play my games, for PS2, about every month. They are great games even though the PS2 version was cut down in graphics and level design.

Just try THIS website for a quick check. Mine was said to not be able to run it and it was right so the website could be correct.

Of course, I forgot that site. According to that, my PC pees all over both of them!

Well then you should go and try out one of the games. If it works and you like it, then you should buy the next one.

I've just found Earned in Blood demo on one of my PC Gamer coverdisks and I absolutely love it! It feels so much more realistic a depiction of war than either CoD or MoH. I've heard that the AI in Road to Hill 30 can be a bit static, that they don't try to flank you like they do in EiB. Do the official patches do anything about that, or are there any fan based mods that do?

Speaking of fan based mods, which ones would you say are must haves for both the earlier games?

Thanks for your help!

Edit: RtH 30 is listed as £1.92 at GAME, but they seem to be permanently out of stock! I've seen it at Zavvi for £12.99 (and £5, funnily enough: it's exactly the same game), so I might grab it from there!

One other thing, I've read that EiB covers much of the same ground as RtH30 and even includes some of the missions from that game. Taking that into account and the fact that the AI in EiB is so much better than RtH30, is the first game still worth getting, or should I jump straight to EiB?

Also, what is this about:

I really want both of the older games for PC, but I don't want to have to buy them second hand for various reasons.

I'd love to get my hands on them and I don't mind digital distribution. Problem is, for some reason I can't get either Earned in Blood (without an ugly "best buy/classic" type-box) or Road to Hill 30. All of the digital distribution methods are for USA/Canada and sometimes Mexico but not New Zealand for some reason.

Anyway, I should probably create my own thread. On topic : Totally worth getting all of them (tbh I remember EiB being better than HH, but only by a small margin. Hells Highway is an awesome game).

I always felt that Road to Hill 30 was the best in the series. It may have had the worst graphics, but probably the best gameplay and storyline of these games. I had them for PS2 which if you know, IT SUCKED! The graphics were bad, levels shortened, etc. but that didn't stop these games from being the best WW2 franchise on the market for me. And so if you guys want them for the PC, that would be a great decision.

Beware! Both games are available on the same site, but for much more. Don't get the more expensive version by mistake!!

Edit: Sorry, just read you're from New Zealand, I'm not sure if Zavvi will deliver there.

So, RtH30 is the best, you'd say? Even though the AI is a bit on the static side (apparently, it doesn't try to flank you as it does in EiB). Any mods around to improve that?

Edit: You'd also say that all three games are long S.o.Bs that will keep you occupied for ages? I've had it with games you can finish in two days, yet pay £30 (or even £10) for!

I admit that the Enemy AI wasn't as good but the overall gameplay was more fun. I'm not sure about any mods. And just because they don't flank you doesn't mean they are easy to kill.

Even after three years, I still go back to the older two games just to have some fun and they still aren't getting boring.

I ordered it from Zavvi, £5. After playing the EiB demo, I just needed more BiA, I love the combat and the squad control!

One other thing, can you lean in the full games? If not, that's a bit of a gaping oversight in a game that's otherwise so realistic! Maybe it was added in a patch?
