I've always liked the Brothers in Arms games. I got a little dissappointed with Hell's Highway though. It didnt feel as dramatical and catching as the first 2 games. And the end was just plain bad, no climax at all. In the previous games there was Hill 30 and St Saveur, both of which provided good ends to both games. But Hell's Highway is like; Hey we lost. What do you know? Let's go home. Oh, and Red got paralyzed.
Anyways, Ive been thinking alot about this lately. It's an idea for a WWII tactical shooter game I have. It would be a bit similar to Brothers in Arms, but still not like it. Im thinking its half RPG half FPS. You start a game, where you can chose which nation to play as, like Russia, USA, Germany or Japan. Then you could chose which kind of troops you want to be a part of, like the navy, marines, airborne, stuff like that. Then you get to make your own character. You should be able to chose your role too, like if you want to be an engineer or a support gunner. And one thing i think is pretty important about that is that you have a name that your fellow soldiers will call you by. Either it could be a long list of available first and last names you could chose from or it could be something like what they did in Mass Effect(your last name had to be shepard so that people had something to call you). That was a pretty good system, but sometimes it felt like people who would know your character pretty well should've called you by your first name, but i think you could bare with them using your last name. You gotta be able to chose your characters voice. Either there could be maybe 10 different ones to chose from or there could be like a way to pitch it and such. When your character is set, you could chose at which part of WWII you would like to start playing in. For example: The Battle of the Bulge, Operation Market Garden. Chose anything you'd like then you jump into the boots of your soldier. You fight with a squad and that is the deal. That isn't gonna change. And about the squadmembers, who they are could be a little tricky to work out so it wont be the same characters all the time. It could be that there's a whole bunch of finished people that are randomly selected. Or maybe that there are sertain traits and such that are randomly chosen to create a character. It has to be people that you can grow attached to, or start to hate. And the way you interract with people needs to be in real time. I didnt like what it was like in Fallout 3 and oblivion, when everything pauses when you talk to someone. It's not that realistic. You still need to be able to move around when you are talking to someone. For example if you are in a firefight you may need to suddenly move or shoot. You should of course be able to chose what to say, so incase you want to be the squad douchebag then no problem. Want to be the nice guy who treats everyone well then that should work too. Wanna be the weird quiet type like Blithe from Band of Brothers then fine. And another thing, when you fire a weapon you HAVE to feel and hear the "power" of the bullet. THe gunshots need to be heard for a long god damn way, and it changes when its far away like in frontlines fuel of war. I thought that was really awesome. It is DEFINETLY not going to be like Call of Duty where you run, aim and fire and there is like no recoil. Maybe the strength and focus of your character could define his skill with a weapon? One thing about FPS' i think could be much more fun is the reloading. YOU need to be the one who reloads, you know? You dont press a button and he does it himself. Maybe you press a button to start the reloading and then use the arrow buttons to guide the magazine in or something, so it doesnt look the same all of the time. THe wounding system or whatever its called has to be as realistic as freaking possible. Getting shot has to be a bothering process so you'll do your absolute best to avoid getting shot. Like if your shot you hit the ground, you look at your wound in 1st person, press some button and call a medic, if there is none around then you either do it yourself or have someone else do it. Depends on your rank. Speaking of ranks in the game i was thinking if you play on easy difficulty you can chose from private, private first class or corporal. On medium private or private first class. On hard then its private. On hard i just want it to be like really being there. It needs to be hard. And you should of course be able to rise in rank. But i think it should stop at Colonel or major. To complete the game you need to play through world war 2 to the end. Then maybe you could unlock new starting ranks and such. The idea of squad combat is one of the most important things im talking about here As you probably can see there is room for improvements and suggestions so feel free to come with any |

1st You might want to edit the title of your post and add a big ****SPOILER****** tag.
2nd, if i understand correctly you're proposing some kind of Squadbased-Fallout 3 set in WWII. The problemm with this is that BiA tells a story. And the game you have in mind let's you create your own story. There's nothing wrong with that of course. It's just that WWII isn't fit for something like that. There are a lot of good ideas there's though |
