I am afraid the offical reply from ubisoft is
"There are no plans to release any further patches for this game. The game is only supported for the operating systems listed in the minimum requirements section on the bottom of the box."

You have to install Vista SP1 from Microsoft, then install EIB and run the shortcut as Administrator, then you may get an error about StarForce to update the driver, download the update from StarForce web site and run EIB, works fine

In addition to the steps above (installing Vista SP1 etc.) There were additional steps I had to take on my Vista x64 Ultimate Edition setup to ensure than EiB worked properly. When running the game for the first time, something will come up stating "Game protection" and asking you to restart the computer. DO NOT RESTART IT, this is important, otherwise your vista installation will stuff up. First update your star-force driver from http://www.star-force.com/support/drivers/. Then you may restart it.

Try running EiB after the reboot, for me it did not run and I only got a blank screen. I had to run it in window mode, to do this: Open the EiB.ini file with notepad in your EiB installation folder/System and find the line StartupFullscreen=True under [WinDrv.WindowsClient] and change it to StartupFullscreen=False
Then save the file and quit notepad.

Now try running BiA again, it should run (but in windowed mode). Create a profile etc. and go to options, video, and set your resolution to your monitors native one (for me it was 1280x1024). Click apply, then quit out of the game.

Open eib.ini again and find [WinDrv.WindowsClient] Directly under it are the lines:
WindowedViewportX=1280
WindowedViewportY=1024
and below those lines are:
FullscreenViewportX=800
FullscreenViewportY=600
Although the values may differ, change the values to match those of WindowedViewportX and WindowedViewportY.
Example: If the lines were
WindowedViewportX=1600
WindowedViewportY=1200
change the next two lines to
FullscreenViewportX=1600
FullscreenViewportY=1200
Basically, they should equal your native resolution.

Then change StartupFullscreen=False to StartupFullscreen=True
Now you should be able to run EiB in fullscreen.

I know this might seem pretty complicated, but trust me it's easy (I'm just not great at explaining stuff) and we need more people online!

now i got EIB working... what about RTH30?
heh...
that one won't even load... it installs... won't load, and won't uninstall even, it just drops dead and leaves the stuff boggin down resources in the BG.

anyone know if the Steam version works on vista though?
Valves pretty tight about letting games that won't work all round onto steam, and thus far anything and everything i've gotten on there works...
but then again i'm skeptical about ever paying for Ubisoft branded products of late :/
their business practice for QA and post release support is really worse off than if i asked a horse for tech support.
i swear i've never gotten a coherent response outside of copy and paste FAQ answers, and hounded by hidden shills on the forums.
(careful they like to hide their mods/admins behind the guise of satisfied customers... not to say i'm not satisfied to some degree, but these games, and NO game for that matter, is ever the 100% perfect they claim them to be)
