I got Eastern Realm but, when I played it with custom map I couldn't use some heroes of the orginal version (such as Alandra, Kestral). So any know how to solve the problem. In fact, we can't play the maps of the original copy in the expansion pack

if you want to play things from the original game you need to load the original games exe file. as the expansion and base game actualy run as two seperate programs this is why you gont get the basic game missions in the expansion.

Thanks for your advice but I have known abt it. I mean that if there's any way to combine both, the original one & expansion, namely I can load both by an exe file of the expansion pack. As u can see, if I play with the original game, it's lack of some features that the Expansion has and vice versa.

How abt the Gold Edition? Is it a combination of both and it just needs an exe file to load ?, or it's the same as what I have now ?(1 exe file to load the original one, 1 exe file for the expansion)

it's the same no matter what version of the game you get, it is quite common for expansions to be done like this. as the older map's/levels are not designed to work with the new features so the scripts cant handle the new items. basicaly to combine the 2 games they would of probly hard to rewrite a fair chunk of the original game to get the new stufff to be backwards compatable.

Don't u see that in Age Of Empire 3 expansion? Once u install an expansion, u could load the game (the expansion and all the features of the original game e.g maps, heroes, stories) by the exe file of the expansion.

E.g priest couldn't cure the units automatically in the original game (we need to activate his curing) but he could in the expansion Warchiefs. And, I found that while playing Warchiefs, you could re-play the maps, campaigns,scripts of the original game and utilize some new features of the expansion (1 of them is realted to priest's ability as above-mentioned)

So wonder why it didn't do the same with 'Eastern Realm'

With the previous game, Settlers V Heritage of Kings, you could run both the first expansion, and the original game, from the second, Legends expansion disc.

You could also sometimes use units and buildings from the expansion in the original campaigns......

But it wasn't meant to be able to do that, it was an occasional bug that allowed it, and if you did find the expansion units and buildings were available, the game would crash after a couple of maps...

Btw, as I calculated, I bought 1 dvd of the original one, 1 dvd of the ex., so a combination of both dvd into 1 dvd may not be available. But am I wrong or not? the gold edition is packed w/i 1 dvd only? Is it a rip?

Anyway, there must be patch for g.e version at least in order to let it play the whole 2 parts (origin&ex)by clicking 1 exe file only as any common g.e of any game as of the present time.
