Is there an upgrade for the ROAE Gold Expansion Pack game?
Mine still lists "1.6.4287 Extra 1".

There is a newer patch:

It doesn't make any gameplay changes though, basically all it does us remove the Tages copy protection from the game, and allow you to play without the disc.

You will need it if you want to try playing online, as you need the latest patch to play.

Gold edition users can sometimes have problems installing this patch, if you have any trouble, just yell out, the fix is quite simple.

I can't install the patch. But then again my screen goes black whenever I play so I think I should fix that one first :P

i have the same problem with my S6 RoaE GOLD
i want to upgrade it to 1.7 or 1.7.1 but bot exe files won't work: i get the error message that the version of Setterls on my computer doesn't match with the Update version.

i run it on windows vista (and i'm administrator)

If you have the Gold edition, you may get a message that the version you have is newer than the patch, for some reason, some of the Gold editions don't recognise that the patch is indeed newer than the existing game version, but that's fixed easily.

Go into the folder on your hard drive the game is installed to, look in both Program Files/Ubisoft/THE SETTLERS-Rise of an Empire/base/bin and Program Files/Ubisoft/THE SETTLERS-Rise of an Empire/extra/bin and if you see a config file called "s6patch.ini" delete it, then the patch will install ok.

Then manually download and install Patch 1.71 which will remove the copy protection and allow playing without the disc.
