I have just bought a new PC and installed ROAE. I went to start a new campaign, it loads the mission briefing, I choose my knight and once it has fully loaded and is about to take me to the world to start the mission, it crashes (vista telling me settlers encountered a problem and has to close)
It is every single time I try to start a game. I assume I am going to be told it's Intel chipset related, so is there anything I can do that won't cost additional money considering it's a new computer? On your specs it shows your computer motherboard and chipset is of the GMA type, which means it has 'onboard graphics' and doesn't have a dedicated graphics card. Onboard graphics are usually very lo-fi.
In Settlers you may need to set all the graphics settings to their very lowest values. Otherwise contact Ubi support. |

All the settings are at the lowest possible including the resolution.
I will try support then. Thank you for the advice |

They'll probably just give you the same advice, and tell you Intel onboard video chips aren't supported, and it's usually only the latest designs of Intel IGP's that can play the game, but normally only at low settings and resolution.
You'd be better off fitting a proper gaming video card in the video expansion slot in your computer, it has a PCI-Express x16 slot for suitable video cards to be fitted in. I have a graphics card I bought a while back
ATI Sapphire X1650 pro 512MB x16 so it sounds like a perfect fit. The reason I didn't use it is because when I used it in my old PC the graphics would fail, it would crash and would tell me that the catalyst control had reset the graphics for some eason or another and it would drastically overheat as though the fan wasn't working on it. but.... do you think it would at least be worth a try in my new pc? |

So long as it's the PCI-Express version of the card, and not an AGP one, it should fit, but as you say it would drastically overheat, it might be worth checking the fan does actually work.

So I tried the card - the installation CD doesnt support vista and of course ATI don't have te driver software anymore because its too old.
so... I bought a new one ^^ NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT £44.99 on sale so I'm ok with it costing that much. Exceeds all the minimum spec so tere is no good reason why it won't work. Now I just have to wait 3-5 working days for it to be delivered Thank you so much for all the help with this. I hope to be reporting good news in a week. |
