Use the included web browser to check if you can view websites through VBox, this will allow you to find out if VBox is actually set up for network connections properly.

I have a strong idea of the cause. I might be totally wrong however. Anyway, I notice that the windows hamachi is a newer version to that of the linux one. It's possible that the two are not compatible with each other, therefore the easiest way to test this would be for your friend to uninstall his windows hamachi and install the 0.9.9.9 version from:

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=hamachi

And see if that then fixes the problem.

I'm so totally lost lol Razz

Why do other people just download those files and I keep on getting errors.

I did what you told me to do Chief Smile I used the download manager and I still get an error that they are not archieves or something like that(even when I 'test' them with 7zip)

Is there another way around those files?

No, all I can suggest is that you keep the corrupt files. And then download the files again to a different directory on your harddrive.

That didn't work. Frown

Just to clarify: does it matter what Hamachi version I have? I tried to install 0.9.9.9 too, but had some problems with it and switched back to the newer version.

The latest linux version is 0.9.9.9, so you cant update your version to anything newer.

Obviosuly I hope you have been using hamachi installed inside debian, and not trying to use the windows version of hamachi, whilst playing the game in debian virtualbox Wink

Also likewise you wouldn't want both the windows and linux hamachi versions running at the same time Big Grin

HAMACHI INSTALLATION GUIDE:

To use hamachi in our virtual box we need to install some file dependencies, files which hamachi needs to run but are not installed on the debian machine currently. Firstly open a console and run the following command:

sudo apt-get install libstdc++5 flex alien

Now go to http://packages.debian.org/sarge/libssl-dev in Dillo and save the i386 version to your virtual machine.

In a console window type:

sudo dpkg -i libssl*.deb

Now go to http://packages.debian.org/sarge/openssl and save the i386 version to your virtual machine.

Now in the console type:

sudo dpkg -i open*.deb

You may now download and install Hamachi, the instructions for this are found at:

http://logmeinwiki.com/wiki/Hamachi:Install_on_Linux

Once you have installed and set up Hamachi, I would reccomend for ease of use that you try out gHamachi, which provides a GUI to the command prompt linux version of hamachi.

Hmm, did you try other websites. The reason I ask is (and I dont know if this is just a problem with my new router and vbox) because occasionally my virtual pc would stop being able to do DNS lookups, which is sorta essential for easy web browsing. If in the status bar of Dillo it says Error: DNS Resolve then you know it isnt just my router Wink

One way to do it is to use the instructions detailing how to set up a shared folder bwteen windows and VBox, and go to the http sites mentioned in the guide in windows, and download the files to the shared folder so you can access (and install( them in VBox.

I found rebooting the entire computer usually sorted the DNS problem (it even seemed to affect standard network connections, was rather strange).

Hi there,

I'm not having much luck with the Hyperfileshare links. They cut off the download at 3.8MB. Can you possibly host this somewhere else, or would some kind soul be prepared to email the files?

Thank you

Hi,
I think it might depend on what time of the day you try the downloads as to how successful they are.
For example right at this moment the downloads are down due to too many users on their servers.
It's mostly their size which is the problem in hosting them at other sites. If you were using the download manager it should automatically allow you to resume, and this even if it stops at 3.8 or so megabytes, it should continue from there on.

To make this ALOT easier for everyone I have remade the entire thing.

And it only takes NINE small and simple steps to do !

For a basic install of Settlers IV everything can now be done in the GUI, no more plugging in commands into the command prompt, just a few mouse clicks and job done.

The download has now dropped from THREE 250mb image files that needed merging and then extracting out, to a single 150mb file and I've now put the file up on a different file host, to (I hope) avoid problems some people were having downloading the files.

Hamachi and gHamachi will now install out-of-the-box without any downloads etc to get (besides their own installer files of course).

Hello,

I followed your steps and got Settlers 4 installed. It took ages, but when i enabled AMD virtualization it was done in 2minutes.

When I try to start it, it says I have to insert the CD (it's in there). Using a NOCD gives me a Software 3D and Hardware 3D error.

System:
MB: Asus Crosshair II Formula
CPU: AMD X2 6400+
GPU: Asus 9800GTX TOP (latest drivers)

Any ideas?

I think I know what the problem is, but i'm going from sort of memory/web site posts for this very quick and not very in-depth response.

Anyway, what you need to do is:

Open up a command prompt (terminal, bash) and type:

tazpkg get-install slitaz-toolchain

Followed by Return/Enter, this will download and install some stuff.

Next you'll need to find out where the kernel-headers have been put.

Now there'll probably be a shortcut (symlink) to this, try in usr/bin folder.

Make a copy of the shortcut and rename it to:

2.6.24.2-slitaz

Now follow the guide that came with VirtualBox for installing Guest Additions and see how you get on.

Sorry that its a brief and not very in-depth guide. But I only know the principle, i've never done this within slitaz - should work though.

Chief. Smile

I will do that later today.

But I also tried some things myself. Using VMware to install windows 98. I get the 3d error too, tried XP in Vmware, same thing happened.
I think somethings not compatible with my videocard/drivers (the virtual drivers).
Cause I also can't run the directdraw tests there. Gives an error.

/edit:
Oh and I played S4 on this PC fine with a 7900GTX. But since I've upgraded I get the black box.
So it's something 8&9 series do, Nvidia needs to fix it! Cause it's only the UI that's giving problems, the game itself has no graphical errors.

Remember to install Guest Additions for the win98/xp tests.

Did that, no change. Frown

I was so desperate I hooked up an OLD PC again. Now I can play S4 just fine (and Dk2 too). Just wish there was a fix for older games. Frown
A remake would be even more awesome.

DK2 as in Dungeon Keeper 2? That should work under XP/Vista with a released XP patch from what Ive read.

I've done everything as instructed, but an unexpectable error occurred: There's not enough disk space on the virtual disk, to install S4 GOLD EDITION. I'm just 15mb short Frown
Any suggestions?
