I said that something in your Rise of an Empire install and setup, was causing your video card to shut down.
It's not unknown for an error to do this, if you look in the help forum of some of the other games you'll find others with similar problems, one Ubi forum even has an official stickied thread in connecion with the nv4 disp error which causes Nvidia cards to crash.
There may be an error in the ISO image, and it may be the error that is causing the problems, some people who have problems installing games make an image of the disc to use, but they normally run the install exe on the image to install the game to their hard disc.

I have no trouble running other games on my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My specs are below:

OS: Vista Prem
Processor: Intel Core2 T5200 @ 1.60GHz (2 CPUs)

DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode
Card name: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family
Chip type: Intel(R) GMA 950
Display Memory: 251 MB

Unfortunately, the GPU used by the Intel 945 Express Chipset, the GMA 950, lacks the hardware support that this game uses, Intel uses software to emulate it, and this works for some games, but unfortunately, it doesn't work with RoaE.
If your computer had used the later 965 Express Chipset, it would have the GMA X3000/3100 GPU, which does have the hardware support, and can run the game, but only on low settings.

ok im realy suprised that theres so many issues with this game. I currently have an old gecube radeon x700 card with (i think) 128mb. THis runs the game fine, low end graphics but at least it plays. Im about to upgrade to a radeon 2600 pro card (motherboard has no PCI-E slots so this is the best agp one i think) but now im wondering whether this will crazily be a bad thing as it seems that most people with high end graphics card are having trouble. Should i be concenrned?

Most of the people who can't run the game are usually using out dated video drivers, or have Intel video chips, most of the issues aren't with the game, they're mainly with the users computers.
As far as your computer is concerned, you can get cards as high as the Radeon HD 3850 in AGP format.

I have a trackball mouse and sometimes the graphics seem to float with the mouse to a new area. weird graphical errors weere not what i excpected from a ubisoft game.

I have a nVidia 6150LE.

No, your video card doesn't cause it, the only hardware that can do that is a DVD drive design/firmware that conflicts with the Tages copy protection.
The error is more likely to be caused by any disk copying or imaging software installed, as Tages can think you're trying to use a copied disc or a disc ISO image, even some versions of Nero can cause this.

I can't get the game run because everytime I run game, it displays the error message " please insert original DVD/CD" . I see many people having the same problem. I have 2 DVD drives and I tried both. None of them work. I also uninstalled all the DVD/CD burner software.

I tried taking the DVD out and running the game so I can activate game online. I entered the CD-key and waited for connecting server but it said "cannot connect server". Then I tried again, now it said: " An existing connection was forcibly closed by remote host". Next I tried using the activation process through HTTP. That didn't work either, because when I got on the website, it kept saying Invalid Serial.

So what should i do now ?

p/s: I already updated to version 1.6.

OK, mine is a bit random, and please forgive me for not trawling through all 22 pages to see if anyone else had the same problem. I ran a quick search and it returned no results, so I'm guessing it's unique to me. Oh yay.

Right. I'm currently starting Mission 10, and since about Mission 7 or 8 when I promoted my knight, the initial couple of seconds of fireworks noise has continued. Even when I start a new mission from scratch (that is, not loading a saved game file), the noise persists. It is extremely loud when I am hovering over any part of my original settlement (excluding colonies in other territories), and persists even during and after festivals and promotions.

Any advice?

Here's my system info etc.:
Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core Processor(2.4GHz,8MB Cache,1066MHz)
Windows Vista™ Home Premium & SP1
2GB DDR2 667MHz Memory - (2x 1GB)
500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive with 16MB Buffer
512MB nVIDIA GeForce 9600GT - Dual DVI, HDTV, TV Out
7.1 High Definition onboard sound card - for 8 Channel Cinema sound

Game: I guess I'm using v1.0 as I haven't installed any patches or anything (they refused to install so I gave up). I haven't interfered with any of the hex codes cos I don't know how, so my game is the original version as it comes out of the box.

Any help greatly appreciated!

The auto patcher has problems with Vista, this was fixed in the first patch, but you will have to download and install it manually, a list of sites you can do this from cam be found here :-

Thanks, I take it the patch will fix the troublesome fireworks noise issue too?

I'm not sure of that, one of them did I think, but I'm not sure which, I never had that problem myself.
If you're already at mission 10, you might either want to finish that mission, or be prepared to restart it, game saves from unpatched games are not compatible with a patched game.

Me again, I have a new problem. I'm sure other people have had a similar problem, but I haven't found a solution that works, so I'm trying here.

I'm attempting to play over LAN and online. I have a fully up-to-date version of Settlers and so does my friend for the LAN game. I have firstly tweaked my firewall and the Windows firewall to allow Settlers in and out, when this didn't work, I disabled the firewalls altogether.

However, when I try to play a LAN game, neither me nor my partner can join each other's games... they simply don't appear in the list. I can successfully create and join my own game, but it seems our computers are invisible to each other.

Similarly, when I try to play online, I can successfully log in and access the menus, but I cannot see anyone else in the different channels. Surely that's not just because I'm the only geek online? Cool

Anyway, I'm wondering what else I can do to get this working.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm not a Settlers expert, but..
Are you sure, your PC is correctly connected to friend's PC? Did you try to ping your friend's IP when connected?

Got a funny one here.

I installed and patched the game to v1.6 in Vista Home Premium 32b with my hardware more than enough for the game and all of my latest signed drivers and security updates installed.

I only have my administrator account seeing as I am the computer's only user. When I go to play the game the patcher will run, verify the version, and when the game tries to start I get the error...

"The current user is not allowed to run THE SETTLERS - Rise of an Empire due to the parental control settings."

Bought the game today, about 3 hours ago actually and this is a little more than frustrating. I'm the admin and cannot have parental controls applied to my account. Using "Run as Administrator" and XP compatibility do nothing for me, still returns the same error.

Any help would be great, kinda stumped on this one.

Yep, can successfully ping and connect to my friend's PC, and can login and browse his shared folders when accessing the "Network" folder on Vista. So kinda clueless as to why we can't see each other ingame.

Ok,
one more thing:
There could be problem with two network cards.
If you are using two cards, use one and try disable the other one.
This way we resolve problem with UnrealTournament, the game was using the 2nd one and the game does not appear in gamelist.

That all from me. :-)
