ARGH! Settlers has been working fine for me since I bought it like a month ago, but now every time I launch it, it's fine for a while, but then my whole PC shuts down. It seems to be about 10-30 seconds after loading settlers, although it lasted to a few minutes one time.

Has this happened to anyone else? Why would it shut down my computer? Confused

It's been fine for a month and now it's suddenly started crashing? have you installed any other software, or done any updates recently that might be causing the crashes?
What video card do you have? you didn't mention that in your post.

I use the 163.71 official drivers from Nvidia with no problems. Graphics card Geforce FX 6800 128mb card Windows XP SP2. I'm up to level 14. Have solved the game save problem by not haveing more than 6 games saved.

the problem is worse with the geforce 7's for some reason more so the 7900's and only the new beta one seems to make it playable.

I do have the occasional lock when the graphics go all funny. It seems to happen if I try to do to many things at once. When it locks up I push the alt and tab keys and after a minute or two your computer well go back to your desktop, when that happens just click on the settlers game in the task bar and everything should be back to normal. Works for me.

Just bought Settlers 6
Installed okay
Downloaded (huge patch) about three times as it dropped out
So now can play teh game and able to save it (although the save is very long)

the problem is playing the campaign - after the first mission it asks for the DVD to be put in the drive - but it is there and wont read it.

very fustrating

the drive is TSST corp CD/DVDW SH-S126A

You could install the SPTD driver at this link.http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads/
It forces the game to use the online activation, it asks for your key code and then checks the installation, afterwards it will activate, it may or may not send you a message to activate, depends on your system.
Once activated, you can put the DVD back in its case as it's no longer needed to play.

Same here, except I have 2GB of RAM not 4. Is there a fix for this? or will I have to shelve another bluebyte game for being sub-par on release?

I just got Settler's Rise of an Empire today, and my computer meets all the specs for it, though the graphics are intel built in 128MBs graphics.

The game will start up, the patch downloaded perfectly, but every time I try to start a game, single or multipler, the maps will load up and everything, but the screen is completely black besides the icons and the mini-map. Any idea what's goin' on?

You have an unsupported graphics card, the game only officially supports Ati or Nvidia desktop cards, even the laptop versions aren't officially supported, but may work.
The Intel chipset hasn't the hardware for shader support, it uses software emulation to try and work, but as you have already found, it fails to do so in this game. It might be worth trying a utility like 3dAnalyze, but that may not fix things, as it simply uses software emulation too, and may be no better than the Intel software.

You might want to get the manual as well.
