I hope maybe one of you may be able to help. i used to play settlers 3 all the time and loved it. i have bought subsequent games but none of them were as good as settlers 3 (in my opinion)
i have tried to install the game but get a message saying "siedler3 has stopped working"
I am running vista and i am a complete muppet with regards to computers. if you can help me could you please repy as if you were talking to your gran or grandad because i am a little bit slow on the uptake. i have download a patch but have no idea what to do with it, (do i drag and drop it somewhere?) i have right clicked and tried to run as administrator (no joy) and various other things suggested on this forum. i would be very greatful if you could help.

It's quite straightforward;

Install Settlers 3. Once installed download the patch and copy it across to your \BlueByte\ directory and choose to replace/overwrite your existing S3.exe

Post back when you've got that far.

Just so as you know what i have done so far. I have the origanal copy of the game (2 discs) and a mission disc aswell. I have installed the first disc and it seems to insall quite well.
i the click on start game and immediatly a message appears saying "siedler 3 has stopped working" i have downloaded patch 1.60 and by right clicking on the settlers icon i have opened up some files and tried putting the patch in just about all of those files.

copy the 160 patch into your settlers directory which if you didn't change the install directory should be located by:
start
computer (on the right of the start menu)
double click on OS( C: )
double click on BlueByte
double click on Settlers3
paste or place the 160 patch in there and run it.
after running that patch you will need to put the s3.exe patch/new file in the same place and overwrite the old version.

downloaded the 1.60 patch......check
on the right side of my computer there is nothing that says "os(c smiley face"
start menu windows round icon is at bottom left of my screen, am i supposed to open that?
in my programmes i can see blue byte if i click on that i find sttlers 3 if i paste the patch in there nothing happens and game still does not work?

yep put the patch in there clicked on it, it did its thing for a little while. game still not working. i will repeat process until i hear from you.

new message now says " kernel32 call does not point into kernel32.dll. virus or incompatable systemanalyzer detected! (#3000)

and now back to the origanal message "siedler3 has stopped working"

siedler3 has stopped working - means patch file is in the wrong place

start menu - round button on the bottom left, click it
computer - on the right of the start menu, click it
double click on C: - might have OS infront of it
double click on BlueByte - should be a yellow folder
double click on Settlers3 - another yellow folder
paste or place the 160 patch in there and run it.
after running that patch you will need to put the s3.exe patch/new file in the same place and overwrite the old version.

This is really such a simple process, please do not try and overcomplicate it.

Ok..

Follow these steps;

- Insert CD1 in to CD drive
- Install Settlers III
- Click this link: ftp://ftp.ubi.com/uk/settlers3/patches/s3exe.zip (Yes, it's the same patch for both XP/Vista)
- Save the file to your desktop
- When downloaded, Extract the S3.exe file to wherever you installed Settlers III, which will be the default directory C:\Bluebyte from memory.
- Windows will then prompt you to overwrite S3.exe in the currect directory - You want to REPLACE the file.
- Job done!

Im having the same problem! Its doing my head in! Allways loved the game, until i got vista, and it's messed it up!!

If anyone can explain then, it would be awesome i just keep getting error on error!

i managed to get settlers working by moving the files as ian explained with the downloaded patch, but then the games still wasnt right so i uninstalled both the patch and game to start again. but now i cant seem to move the patch to the blue byte file, it moves but wont recognised the excisting file to replace??
please help?

Make sure you have permissions to overwrite the File in your BlueByte directory.

The alternative is to DELETE the S3.exe file first then copy the XP/Vista S3.exe in to the folder. Run the game from this S3.exe file and the game will work.
