I am looking for the patch for windows vista. is there one? |
||||
|
This is really such a simple process, please do not try and overcomplicate it.
Ok.. Follow these steps; - Insert CD1 in to CD drive - Install Settlers III - Click this link: ftp://ftp.ubi.com/uk/settlers3/patches/s3exe.zip (Yes, it's the same patch for both XP/Vista) - Save the file to your desktop - When downloaded, Extract the S3.exe file to wherever you installed Settlers III, which will be the default directory C:\Bluebyte from memory. - Windows will then prompt you to overwrite S3.exe in the currect directory - You want to REPLACE the file. - Job done! |

I am also having a problem. I have done everything posted in this forum, but I get the error "Structured Exception c0000005 occurred at 0x005FCDFB. Read from 3d8b4dd1 failed"
How can I play my game!! I'm running XP and I could run it before, but there were some bugs in the campaign (forests would not grow and barracks wouldn't recruit). Please help!!! |

I can certainly guarantee that it is not a pirated copy. It has full CD Key Serial Number, and Certificate of Authenticity. So that one flies out the window.
It is weird now though, cause my iron smelter is now producing pigs instead of iron... I don't understand, because the game was working perfectly, PERFECTLY, until I installed the update and then had to uninstall and re-install the game. Now all sorts of weird things are happening... |

Yes it is weird as both symptoms you are getting with trees,pigs etc is a pirate problem.
When you uninstalled did you do a search for any rogue files/folders that were left behind,as inevitably some are left,these could be the cause,dont just look for settlers3 in search also search for Siedler and Siedler3. |
|||
|
Yes, I have searched for everything and it was all removed. I am slightly concerned that the game might think it's pirated because of the update, but that wouldn't be the case if everything was removed.
I'm at a loss, and there is no tech support for my country, so can't afford to phone overseas to get help |

Which update are you referring to?
Have you tried installing without the update? Do you have just Settlers3 or Settlers3 Gold Edition? The Gold Edition doesnt need to be patched to 1.60,it should already be that version. If you are patching to 1.60 with just the original Settlers3 and no add ons make sure you download 1.60old not 1.60new. |
|||
|
I installed 1.60old but I got Kernel32.dll error.
I have Settlers 3 only, and I had installed it before the patch and it worked ok until Romans Campaign 2 where I couldn't train soldiers or grow trees, so I figured a patch was necessary. When I did that all manner of things went wrong! Now my iron smelter produces sulphur, pigs, gold and grain... I don't know what the issue is because as I say, the game is original... |

I dont disbelieve you when you say the game is original,but have to be suspicious when you have the usual problems connected with pirate versions
I can mail you the kernel32.dll to see if once you drop that in your S3 folder,if that helps at all. If you want to try this send me a pm via the forum,to do that left click on my nickname on the left,select view my public profile,then send private message. |

I origionally bought my Settlers3 game not long after it first came out in the 90's.. The pigs from smelter glitch has been around since day one even in non-pirated discs. I've not bumped into it yet myself, but I recall reading about it when I first played settlers. I quite enjoyed the game, but after awhile it went on a shelve. I just recently dusted it off and am now here looking to solve the same trees and soldier problems I'm seeing in this thread. I can play it just fine till I make my first save game.. then I stop produceing soldiers and the trees stop growing. blergh~

Is your game fully patched?

Hey!
My mum recently decided that she wanted to play Settlers 3 again, but since we're all on WinXP, she had to get me to sort it out so she could play it. I knew I had to find a patch to get it working, however I've only found one place where I can actually get a working download and it still refuses to work. None of the Ubi/BlueByte FTP servers are working, so I'm unable to download the patches by that means, and when I tried using the patch I found elsewhere on the internet I get a neverending loop of FileConverter.exe running, closing, then running again on exactly the same files. We've got Settlers 3 Gold and he have had it running on these machines previously. Any advice? |

Hi.
I've always loved the settlers games right from the beginning, but have never actually finished one. Recently I decided to dust off my copy of S3 and give it a go. Unfortunately, as I'm on Vista it won't work. I downloaded the patch, but now I'm also getting the "Structured Exception c0000005 occurred at 0x005FCDFB. Read from 5c8a140a failed." error also. As far as I can see nobody addressed this particular error message? I have the orange case cover, not the gold. Thank you very much in advance. I know it must be a pest to keep having to sort out these old games... but the fact is that they're still very playable |

Settlers 3 will work with Vista,its what I use,I had many graphical issues getting it to work,others had no problems at all.
That error in Settlers 4 is a compatibilty error,not sure if it is for S3,could be worth trying to run it as XP,by changing it on your .exe file |
