i tried both patches however it still comes up with the same error "DirectDraw Error DDER_CANTUNLOCKSURFACE occured at Csurface:DLOCK" can you tell what this error means or how to overcome it? any help would be appreciated

I have never seen that error before,Direct Draw is linked with DirectX,S3 ran at a much lower version than we run now,as far as I recall when you are installing S3,it asks if you want to run DirectX version ?,aybe thats where your problem lies if you didnt allow that to run.

This is just a stab in the dark,but worth trying.

Ok I've got a strange problem, together with my friend There is no problem with starting Settlers 3. We dowloaded the "patch" ftp://ftp.ubi.com/uk/settlers3/patches/
The reason why I say it's not a patch its because its just a .exe file. Anywho... my problems is, we can both create a game on multigamer internett but we can't seem to join each others games. In the bottom left corner we get the status: Not Connected. This is kind of strange because others can join us. We both have original games, but not the gold edition. Can someone please help us?

when ever i click on start game it says "settlers 3 has stopped working" any help on how i can fix this because i really liked it when i learnt how to play it properly it stopped working. any help?

Well, I have Settlers 3 Gold Edition, I have patched it and everything (even tried XP patch), but the error message I am getting is "Settlers 3 Requires at least DirectX 3 to run"

Please if you could help it would be greatly appreciated, I love this game and cant wait to get playing it again after years!!!!

PS. I am running Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4, not Windows XP

UPDATE :- I have found the problem, it was due to the fact Xfire was running BEFORE I launched the game.

Please can someone help me. ive bought settlers 3 gold edition and downloaded the s3.exe 'patch'. Im now getting a message saying 'yuor settlers 3 installation is corrupt'. Any ideas?

i can get settlers working on xp fine, except it's really laggy and freezes a lot. my specs are well above average and other people on here have had the same problem with xp.

can anyone help?

thanks penny for the file .. i still got a problem though when itry and start up the game it syas that kernall 32 thing and i have also tried downaloding a update of the settlers 3 website and it says that the patch32 file isnt going to the patch32 file .. this has got me realy confused

deano where u from? we could do with more british faces on settlers3. come on for a game sometime

ok i have S3 gold edition and am trying to run it on xp. I have installed it fine but these patches are all confusing me and im getting loads of errors. Firstly when trying to upgrade to 1.6 i download it and run 160old.exe and it says failed because PATCHW32.dll was not found. Then when i try to do the other thing u suggested about the xp patch extracting it to my s3 folder, just before its about to do so it says the s3 folder is password protected and i need to fill one in :S. Oh and btw without the patches im getting the kernall error. if u need any other info just ask n ill try n provide but someone plz help im not giving up till ive played it!! n btw my email is sam_bam_boy@hotmail.com

In your s3 folder there is a file called Fileconvert.exe you need to double click on it after adding the XP patch.

ok i am getting v angry now with this game i really wanna play but its ridiculous. Ive been searching net for ages (im sam629 btw who posted b4) for ways to fix everything. basically i have 3 pc's im trying to play this game on. One pc (XP one) wont even install the game i click the setup button to start install...nothing happens . Other pc (also XP), cd installs it. get the kernall error. I dont really kno what to do with the patches but, what i do is, dowload them into my s3 folder on the CD (do i need to do this??). When i double click on the patch i get error saying patch32.dll was not found. the patches i dled are the 160new.exe ones. Also, b4 i was unzippin one of the patches into my s3 folder n i needed a password to do this. Is this because i cant do that to files on the cd. If i copy and Paste everythiing on the cd to a new folder and then try unzip patches into the S3 folder will that work??? basically all i want is for something new to happen and not get the same old error messages, i wud even be satisfied with new ones. PLZ SOMEONE HELP MEZZZ!!!

p.s. my game was bought from a store, not a copy.
p.s.again. i MITE (i really dno i havent played game in ages) have alreadey patched it up n maybe thats why i get errors when using the patches :S??? but i doubt it coz i dno much about computers now so i wudnt have done then either..
p.s.lasttime. I get the same problem with running settlers 4 on that pc (as in the pc just doesnt seem to wanna read that disk just like with settlers 3)
