Ok guys, I found a way to "trick" settlers IV to change to a desired resolution..

Here's what you do:

1. Go to ...:\Settlers 4\Config and open the file GameSettings.cfg with notepad.

2. On the bottom you should see something like this:
WindowHeight = *
WindowWidth = **

should be *600 and **800 or higher...

3. Change the values to a matching resolution like 1280x1024
(WindowHeight = 1024,WindowWidth = 1280) {you can experiment higher but i haven't tired it }

4. Save and close the file, then right-click it and tick the "read-only" bracket. Apply and close.

Voila! You can now play on your desired resolution
Other options like hardware rendering,filtering, etc. I could already change in game so.. or just find it in the .cfg file...



Note: You can also edit the Video.cfg in the same folder and change "ForceBlit = 0" to 1. It solved my blacked out message bar, but you can't see the messages anymore if you turn this on (at least I can't )

Note 2: Also Vista users if you can't run the game then go to the properties of the settlers executable and tick the following:

Run this program in compatibility mode for:
Windows XP (SP2) <--- optional

Disable visual themes
Disable desktop composition
Disable display scaling on high DPI settings


Haven't fixed the black box near the menu yet > Will post if I find a fix.

Didn't pressing F2, F3 or F4 when in the game change the resolution for you?

Its interesting if it works, I know someone who wanted to play in over-1280x1024 res. Since the game is meant to be maximum res of 1280, if the cfg file works then widescreen might be possible.

People who have vista have the resolution options grayed out in the game, so pressing F2,F3 or F4 doesn't do anything..

Odd that, since I'm a vista user and I had no problems with resolution changing through the in-game menus.

Oh and like the person in the thread you linked to, i'm also on 64bit vista.

Vista 32 and can use F1 F2 and F3 in game to change resolution,obviously not a Vista issue.

Well, then it's a directx 10, or a graphic card issue... I dunno I just know some ppl had problems with it...

Wouldn't work for me (vista64) until I found another post.
