Hey richb50,
From my own experience of playing the game Ive found that 1 of each building type seems to be sufficient with the exception of woodcutters and hunters.
I generally use this ratio 4:1:1 (4 bee hives to 1 beekeeper to 1 tavern) - seems to work fine. I upgrade my buildings all at once to level 3 if possible too.

I'm using 5 beehives for a level 3 Hut and also a level 3 hut will supply for 2 level 2 Taverns (or less). So, I guess, you've been wasting quite a bit of resources Galmo

Maybe not wasted though, when a player is wanting to get the rich buildings to upgrade the knight. From the land down under

Well beehives only take 3 wood to make so they are kinda cheap... but stone is a limited resource that you never have enough of - who doesnt want to wall in ALL their lands in stone? Plus the enemy AI cant handle stone walls sometimes - ever noticed they just sit outside your walls? Maybe they are taking lunch - Id hell fire their arses if I was their King :P
Anyway, my problem is mainly building up the economy fast enough - its easy when you start from scratch but when the city is pre-established like in some quests I begin to think that the city planner must have been drunk.
