Damn! I was asked to not mention that, but now that it's on the Die Siedler forums too, there's not much point in preventing the info from being posted here.

I can't update to 1.7
I have version 1.6.4287 installed.

I get this error when trying to patch:
Update THE SETTLERS - Rise of an Empire 1.7.4288 Base: incompatible S6Patch.ini The Base installation is not updated, because it isn't compatible with this update

Uhm help?

Installed fine for me, incompatible? you aren't running a trainer or no cd crack are you? or used the "fix" mentioned by Anzzik in this thread:- http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...141083247#8141083247

That was just a quote from the "Settlers 6 Version History.rtf" wich is placed in the Settlers 6 installation folder.

Therefore it was no "insider" info.

I know, that file was the first thing I checked after installing it, just in case there were any other changes in the patch.

No i use no trainer, i have the official game (no eastern realm expansion yet), so it's also not Anzzik's 'fix' either.
My gf also has the game and has the same problem on her pc.

I just checked the S6Patch.ini content all it says is [Patch]
Identifier=unprotected

Ok sorry to be spamming this thread but i just found the solution to my problem.

Simply remove S6Patch.ini from the THE SETTLERS - Rise of an Empire\base\bin folder, apply patch and voila update is succesfull.

Good, now you can safely leave the DVD in the box and play without it.

I have the exact same problem, but if i try to remove that file it says that it is "read only" so i cant remove it. Any suggestions on how to solve this?

If you're on Vista, you may need to do it as Administrator, and you may need to change the settings in order to be able to remove the file.

If you right click on the file, and select properties, you'll see a box marked "Read-only" make sure it's not ticked.

Yeah, ive tried to uncheck it but it doesnt work. It gives an error. "It cant recognise the medium and the medium is probably not formatted". And yes, im on Vista. I dont know if the error is in good english, i had to translate it from dutch to english.

My Brother and I have been playing for some months now we both have legal registered versdions of Settlers 6 BUT... MINE updates to version 1.7 without a hitch my brothers does not it says the version is either incompatable or that it is newer than the update. Can anyone tell us how to get the game to update properly. his game version is currently:1.6.4287. I have had to roll mine back to be able to keep playing.
Can anyone shed some light on this please.

I recently bought Settlers through the Steam client. Whenever I run this patch, it tells me that it cannot find settlers: Rise of an empire. Will the patch be released to Steam anytime soon so I can update via there or do you have any suggestions?
