Eastern realm is an expansion for the original game, Rise of an Empire, and requires the original game to play.

The Gold Edition is a compilation pack that has both the original Rise of an Empire, and the Eastern Realm expansion.

Also (if I may add some info), the Expansion is like the same game but seperate... as in it doesnt add anything new to the original campaign - it continues on the story as if it were a seperate game entirely.

The Expansion has some cool looking buildings in it and some really interesting new features. In my opinion, it doesnt really seem like much of an expansion at all, more like a sequel of sorts.
