Obi,

That's a strange one and very hard to diagnose.

Check the ports and then re-check them again just to make srue you've forwarded the correct ones.

Also make sure that your computer is spyware/malware and virus free. If all else fails, replace your router and see if that helps. My preferred choice are Netgear's as they work tremendously well with S3.

Although I do know that you shouldn't be running S3 under the Compatibility mode in Vista - This option just makes programs very unstable. Welcome to the world of Bill Gates.

Hi Ian,
firstly many thanks for the post i've got the game working on vista 64bit thanks to your patches.
I'm only playing single player missions which seem to work but the tutorial does not.
Yes it has been so long since i played it that a quick trip through the tutorial would be helpful :S.
Each time i click tutorial it crashes back to the desktop with the following error.

Structured Exception c000005 occurred at 0x005FADC9. Read from 3e9b3bf0 failed.

Any ideas?

Hi! I'm really having a hard time with my Settlers 3 game. I got the game with my first computer which was a Windows 98 i think. I used to play the game almost everyday. Then we had to buy a new computer because the old one broke. It's a Windows XP and I think I know how to play the game on it. But that computer is really slow so I want to play it on my laptop which is a Vista. I've installed it but it won't play and says:

Kernel32 call does not point into KERNEL32.dll. Virus or incompatible Systemanalyzer detected! (#3000)

I'm sure that my laptop doesn't have any viruses so I'm guessing it won't play because it's incompatible.

Could you please just tell me what I need to do to play The Settlers III on Vista??

Hey there! I'm still having trouble joining games with my router, it's a NETGEAR.

I have forwarded all ports to my static IP and windows firewall is off. Sometimes, the first time I attempt to join a game after entering lobby I can get in.. but any attempts after that will fail. I can host games so ports must be forwarded correctly?

Thanks for any help!

Hi bhabiiexiv,

You'll be pleased to know I've just installed Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 and all is well - I've just Installed Settlers 3 in the normal way, and downloaded the Xp/Vista S3.exe file from BlueBytes website and overwrote the original S3.exe in the folder - Ran the game from the shortcut and all is well. I'm sucessfully playing Settlers 3 on Vista without any trouble at all. The Kernerl32 error you're receiving is very strange - Have you overwritten the S3.exe file in your Install folder with the one from the download site? Make sure your Vista is right up to date as well via Windows Updates.

Little General,

Hi, how you doing buddy..

You're problem sounds very much like a caching issue on your computer and not necersarily your router.
When you're having this problem, Alt+Tab out of S3 and go to a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd [Press Enter]) and then type: ipconfig /flushdns

You should then see "Windows IP Configuration Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache."

Now try and join another game. If that works then it's a caching issue. Let me know how you get on, and if that doens't work, I shall investigate further. Ps. What model router is it? (Turn the Netgear over and write here) Cheers Smile

Hey Ian, thanks for the reply!

I'm doing great, just bumped into ChaZ Dixione who told me he was still playing S3 every now and then so thought I'd give it a go too when I came across the joining problem again..

Did what you asked and it said successfully flushed, so then tried to join another game but no luck. Again I could join the first game but any attempt after failed.

Also: Netgear MR814v2tw

Thanks and hope to see you in a random soon!! (if i'm hosting) Smile

Pennyuk,

You're meaning to tell me that he/she hasn't read the first post, stating that you MUST replace the S3.exe file with the XP/Vista patched one first trying to run the game? Smash Smash Smash Veryhappy

I've received a similar error without patching, but it has never said "Virus or incompatible Systemanalyzer detected! (#3000)" - Very odd Confused

Little General;

I presume that router was shipped with your Blueyonder connection? Unfortunately due to the "Limitations" of what Blueyonder impose on these routers (ie. Flashing it with their own firmware) it's going to be nigh on impossible to diagnose your problem (Or even troubleshoot it with that router). Suggestion to buy a New Netgear, and enter all credentials manually.

I'm only assuming this as I can't find that particular model on Netgear's website?

I did have blueyonder but I think we bought the router from PC world or somewhere.. Don't worry about it then, I can still host games Smile

Hi there Ian

My friend and me is having some more problems when trying to connect to each others games.

My friend is able to connect to my game, but he's not able to change the race, or press the ready button so I can see it. Other ppl have been able to connect to my game to, yet if they were able to change race/press the ready buttom i'm not aware of.

When I tries to connect to his game I'm not able to connect to it at all.

When we're connecting to other games, it works without any problems.

I've configurated the firewall in my router with the configuration you've described in the beginning of this thread, so there it should be no problem.

My friend is using AVG internet security and has allowed S3.exe on all inbound and outbound ports.

However. The strangest thing is that we got everything to work a few times earlier this week without any problems at all, and yesterday everything the problems I've explained came.

So my question to you is that do you know what could be wrong?

Mr Harris.
Morning.

I got a new problem maybe your big brain can help?

One day S3 was working fine. For a good few years anyway.

Then one strange day, i.e. Today , things have gone downhill.

I can host a game, although some poeple can't click green or choose race.

And I can join a game. But when there in the wee chat room bit, I don't see people click green, although they have.
I also don't see the wee flashing light when poeple want to swap teams.
I do see chat there, and people see me turn green and choose race ok.
But when host starts game, I never make it to join them and get the 'Waiting for Host' message.

Is a lonely place....

All router ports checked and double checked and are all fine.
Windows firewall switched off.

Jings crivens, help ma boab...

Hi Fletty,

You know, I really dispise those sort of problems. Just lately, for some bizzare reason, I've been unable to join games myself, but when I do, I'm the DPlaySync guy!

There are several possible reasons for the issues you are seeing. Have you tried turning ICMP off as per my guide? (Windows XP Pro / Vista Ultimate only) I generally find that's the reason for synchronisation issues.
Although it could be down to a new set of IP addresses your ISP has issued you with lately, which unfortunately are out of both mine and yours' control. Smash

Just check your router hasn't upgraded it's own firmware too - this can sometimes have an adverse effect on old games.
Also, if your router has the DMZ functionality, punch in your local IP address in to the router to see if that temporarily solves your problem. Then you can at least say then it's definitely a port issue.
Let me know how you got on buddy.

Excellent news......

Working again.

Appears my 'Sky' router updated it's firmware automatically.

In doing so it decided to activate UpnP.

Unchecked that box and all is fine again in the sad world of randoms.......

Cheers

I suppose that was one of my checkpoints Smile

You'll find that uPnP is enabled for things like Remote Assistance between XP/Vista etc. Most routers automatically understand this protocol anyway so I've found uPnP useless in the past. Glad it's sorted.

Ian,

Further to an email I sent you I thought I'd post here too! Smile

Netgear DG834G

2 Computers (one XP Home, one XP Pro)

ICMP - Off on both
Firewall - Off on both
Security Center - Off on both
AVG Free Edition - Installed and on both (no firewall on the free version)
S3 updated and working fine normally (bar multiplayer that is)

All ports forwarded.

UPnP - off

DNS Cache - flushed on both
Security policy change - I did this on the XP Pro (XP home has no facility for this) to no avail.

In conclusion - what next? XP Home machine works fine, can host, join and chat.

XP Pro machine cannot host, join or chat... Aarrgh.

Cheers,

Dan
