UBISOFT® MAPS OUT THE SETTLERS 7: PATHS TO A KINGDOM
Successful strategy franchise gets an all-new challenging sequel LONDON, UK – September 22nd, 2009 – Today Ubisoft announced the development of The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom, the next iteration in the popular multi-million selling strategy game franchise for PC. Scheduled for release in spring 2010, The Settlers 7: Paths to a KingdomTM gives gamers the opportunity to choose the best way to lead their kingdom to victory, in a rich environment set in middle-Europe during the early Renaissance. “The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom brings The Settlers® franchise to a new level in the strategy-game genre, relying on the key mechanisms that made the series a success while innovating and giving the gamers the opportunity to build their own thrilling experience.” said John Parkes, Marketing Director EMEA at Ubisoft Developed by the Ubisoft Blue Byte studio located in Düsseldorf, Germany, The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom ties in with the tradition of the series success while bringing a fresh, modern and innovative strategy game, based on strong game mechanics and deep gameplay that are hallmarks of the highly acclaimed Settlers franchise. Players will easily become engaged in an exciting campaign, skirmish maps or multi-player challenges in a world of lush forests, open meadows, fast flowing rivers, and high mountains. The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom main features: • Rich gameplay mechanics: The deep building and production systems both allow gamers to expand their kingdom village by village, sector by sector, optimizing their creation by fine-tuning production chains and transport systems. • Variety of gameplay: Gamers will be able to choose the best path to lead their kingdom to victory around three main pillars: • Military: by building strong armies and defeating opponents with shear military power. • Science: by increasing their influence in the monasteries, gamers will be able to have access to the most beneficial technologies. • Trade: by occupying the best trade routes to become the wealthiest player on the map. Depending on each style of play, gamers will be able to unlock a variation of new and unique possibilities, changing the way they build their own kingdom. • An innovative victory system: new victory point system brings more tension and competition to the game. Victory points are awarded in many different ways depending on the choices gamers make throughout the evolution of their kingdom. • Online Multiplayer: gamers will be able to play online and face opponents in classic adversarial and co-op teamplay modes. Online features include user-generated and downloadable content, in-game feeds, and various leaderboards. • A new graphic engine and improved AI: A brand-new graphic engine will let gamers experience the beauty of their kingdom in a never-seen-before level of detail and more than a dozen AI profiles, each with unique behaviours, will add enhanced variety to the game like never before. sounds fun I like games that give you the choice of how to play instead of it telling you how to play.

Will it actually FEEL like Settlers this time? Will it PLAY like Settlers?
The last Settlers game I bought was IV. Yes, IV. Played the demos of both V and VI and neither of them was Settlers. Please bring the series back to its roots. Oh, and PLEASE - no online activation, use DVD-CHECK. I haven't bought Anno 1404 yet for this very reason. |

Agree with your points. Owned Settlers III, Settlers III Gold Edition, Settlers IV and Settlers II: 10th Anniversary edition but could never get into the ones after IV. Favorite is still Settlers III. However, my past experience has told me to expect the worst for this one too. The alternative to my Settlers craze is the Anno series which happens to be by Ubisoft too. However, even then there remains a difference between the two which can be filled. Please just remove the protections and put it on Steam. Those protection schemes does nothing except frustrate legitimate users, I have had past (old) games utilising Securom which BSOD my Vista x64 computer on install, never go past the CD check and it is all but wasted expense. |

I agree with others, please no more V and VI and return back to the previous Settlers, the original ones. They were great!

I have to respectfully disagree. I tried to get into every settlers game and was unable to until Rise of an Empire came along.
For me, Settlers 6 finally got it right. I loved the style and the gameplay made sense. The progression was just right for me to learn the mechanics of the game and string me along to more complicated villages and more upgraded buildings. That being said, I'm looking forward to 7. I don't mind the more cartoon like style. I'm just hoping they cvontinue with a similar gameplay as used in version 6. |

I have to say settlers did lose it's way around 4 & 5, 6 was by far the best since the original two releases.
I have big hopes for 7, please don't let us down!! |

I'm quite excited about this. It looks like it's going to use the latest version of the engine that's currently used for Anno 1404, which is good news.
From the promotional video and the little information that has so far been published, it seems like BB may be trying to address the concerns of players by offering multiple routes to victory. I have to say, though, that we don't have enough information yet about how the three paths will work... and I'm not sure exactly how people feel that the Settlers series has lost its way. Is it simply that there is too much emphasis on military activity? Ideally, the player will be able to configure the game to their desired play style, be that fast/slow paced, peaceful orwarlike, small or large scale, etc. |

THE SETTLERS 7 - Paths to a Kingdom will not be a remake of any of the old games, but especially the core game mechanics (economy & transport system) is mainly influenced by the classic Settlers games. I trust that if you liked the old Settlers games you will buy this one after trying it. |

The core mechanics of Settlers 7, the economy and transport system, is inspired by the older Settlers titles. There are also things that come directly from Settlers 6, e.g. the way you conquer other territories (the sector system). And then, there are new ideas like the victory point system. The fact that you build a kingdom with cities and villages is coming from Settlers 6. Currently, our testers' most popular strategy is to build one main city with a few surrounding villages for resources and then another city to better be able to defend the realm. |

I'm glad to see you're posting in the English forums again, I've noticed your posts in the German forums, but what happened to the BB_Magic account you used to use back when Settlers 6 was announced?

This one is close, isn't it? I will regularly go into all the forums and try to answer some questions. Please understand that I will not be able to answer everything right away - otherwise PR is going to kill me... Thank you for responding. I hope the game will be much more "settlersy", because, well - I'd like to support you, but V and VI disappointed me big time and I've noticed that many people felt the same way. Good luck to you, I'm hoping for the best. On a related note, have you ever considered re-making Settlers III, just as you did Settlers II? |

Hi BBMagic
@Pankratz Im living in hopoe that just maybe we could get a Settlers game in 2011 to celebrate the Settlers 4 10th birthday, that would be awesome and make the original Settlers players very happy,to finally have those little guys back we all loved so much Like you I dont like the gameplay of S5 and S6,too AOEish for me,but game designers are in this game to make money and if that type of game sells and the old style Settlers doesnt, then we wont get to see its return |
