How do I bug the telephone w/out being seen? I get killed every time

On either version of this game, after reaching the top of the stairs, check your radar for red dots, representing the enemy, and make sure they are moving away from the pulsating white dot, which is your first target (telephone), then you can advance toward your target. Good hunting!
