This is the first age Ive been to and I am already annoyed.

I've drawn the "heat" symbol once, and have used the same symbol (auto redraw button) several times now to figure out what to do.

I got the switches moved to the pipes, then linked back to the cave pedistal to reobtain the slate.

Click the redraw button to get the creature to scream and heat the place up again and NOPE. The EXACT same symbol Ive reused every single time he wont accept anymore. Try redrawing it manually several times now, and every time the creature just shakes its head and disappears.

Is there a maximum number of times you can use a symbol? Luckly Im at the beginning (for me at least) so can restart over, but would like to just keep going on with the same game sime Im lame and writing my version of a journal (After playing 5 Myst games thus far nice to write my own instead of just reading) and dont wanna lose it.

(Side note: I dont see a journeycloth on the creatures, so how are they linking around?)

There is no limit to the number of times you can use a symbol, but unfortunately the slates and the symbol recognition system are not bug-free.

If you have a saved game from before you first drew the heat symbol, you can go back to that. (Each time you take a picture with your camera, you create a saved game; you can go back to it by opening your in-game journal, locating the picture and clicking at its top.)

If you can't go back to a saved game, it's probably best to start over from scratch, and take pictures frequently.

Thanks for the info. I do have saved games, like Myst IV Ive been using the camera not to make save points but more for taking pics of the various artwork/pictures on the walls (as never know which one of these is a clue) for my journal.
