The last myst game i played was revelation. Im wondering if myst 5 is similar in terms of graphics. Myst 4 had impressive realistic environments, altho i read in some forum that myst 5 was different.
Can someone verify if this is true or not. |

Like Myst, Riven and Exile, Revelation used pre-rendered graphics. Myst V End of Ages uses a real-time 3D engine, like the Uru trilogy. As a consequence, graphics in End of Ages are not as finely detailed as in Revelation. On the other hand, you can (if you wish) move around freely, without being confined to pre-defined nodes.
Which is "better" has been the subject of heated discussions in this and other forums. In the end, it comes down to personal preference. |

My own observation was that even though Myst V is in realtime 3D, the images are better-looking than those in Uru. In fact, parts of it are just breathtaking. But since it was built some time after Uru, and was intended as a single-player adventure, perhaps they were able to take advantage of newer tech and dial up the graphics quality.

The Ages in End of Ages were taken out of the production pipeline they had developed for Uru Live before it was canceled. Concepts and ideas are not in short supply at Cyan, and they've got a ton of stuff in various stages of completion that has never been used for any number of reasons. The two expansion packs that were released for Uru pretty much bled their pipeline dry of ready-to-go content... everything in End of Ages required a massive re-build, as it was all content that was built early in Uru Live's development and hadn't been touched for years. Cyan had no plans to release a third Uru expansion pack because Ubi wasn't going to pay for one. However, the abbreviated development schedule that they were given for End of Ages pretty much necessitated taking content and story lines already in development for Uru Live and re-tooling them to make one final Myst game. This has actually been discussed a number of times and is somewhat off the point of this discussion.
