I just finished Myst V. I chose the "right" ending the first time. Solving everything without any help, except the little help Esher provided left a good feeling at the end.

I hope Cyan will be able to start over again, perhaps with a completely different branch off of Myst. Otherwise, this has been a great ending. It seems that first person shooters and the like (some are very shallow games) dominate the market, and Myst is so different, very special, and something I will remember always. It's amazing what you could do in a game without some sort of weapon in your hands -- just a stone tablet with trusty Bahro at your side :-).

I don't know of any game series with such a great history -- three books (and another one coming soon), a language, and so much overall detail. It's mind-boggling.

It would be interesting to know what others feel about the future of Myst, Cyan, Ubisoft, and this type of game in general.

I'd say all of us regulars here, with a few exceptions, love the Myst series. While it's pretty quiet here now, there are many interesting threads to answer your questions. I'll just say that it seems that Cyan wished to go in another direction feeling that they had exhausted the story of Atrus and his family. If Ubi's URU Live had been a success, I'm sure they'd have kept at it. More's the pity that it wasn't and almost caused their demise. We are all waiting to see what they will come up with next as they have been pulled back from the brink of extinction.

There is a rabid and dedicated fan base that tried to resurrect URU with Until URU and almost succeeded, except that now no new members may join, awaiting a notification from Cyan due in January or February, last I heard. Curious, that. I expect we'll know soon what they're up to.

As for me, I have always loved adventure games and am sorry URU did not succeed. There needs to be more online gaming of the cerebral type on the web in my opinion.

Just want to clarify this point by saying that Until Uru was started by Cyan as a way to allow people back into the Cavern communally, as well as a sort of stop-gap maneuver to ensure that the community could slowly grow beyond the base it may have had in Prologue, pending a full restoration of the Live effort on Cyan's behalf.

The Kagi keys are unavailable for the time being, and speculation abounds that it has a lot to do with GamerzUnion using Until Uru as a beta test platform for their service, which will serve as a gateway app for many different MMO's with only one monthly fee instead of one for each MMO you play.

Cyan is also planning an announcement of some type for January or February, and speculation abounds as to what it's about. I've seen thoughts that it could be related to Until Uru and GamerzUnion, it could be about Cyan's next project, it could be about the release of official Age development tools for Uru or End of Ages, and recent activity from the DRC forums has fueled speculation that Cyan may be trying to bring Live back again, though this is probably the least likely. According to one of the Cyan staffers who hangs out at UruObsession.com's forums, the announcement seems to change subject every few days, so we may never know what they're up to until they tell us.

I would hope that if CYAN doesn't give us another great adventure game or series above & beyond mindless/shallow FPS or typcial adventure games...that other developers/companies will recognize this need/want in people and so take the necessary steps forward to create it ADEQUATELY for the needy!
