I can get the wind to blow and power the windmill. The left elevation lever works as does the gate opening button. The right hand lever does not work. It sticks in the down position when I move it, but the cage does not rotate. This is on a Mac running 10.4.3.

Are you sure it's sticking? I mean even though you may not think you're seeing the cage change are you going down to it and looking at it to confirm it's position?

When you activate the levers (center one and right one) do you let them finish their cycle (coming back to original position) b4 pushing the red button ? Also note that the right side red button is defective and not usable.

I was able to orient my viewpoint so I could see the motions of the cage from the windmill control panel. Although distant, I could see the cage respond to the controls without having to leave the windmill and walk over to the enclosure. Yes, I have confirmed that the cage is not rotating. The right hand lever never finishes its cycle because it sticks in the down position when you activate it. I've gone back to earlier saves, but there isn't any change in the problem.

As a precaution, have you activated the big lever at the left first ?
If you have tried walkthrough (s) could you tell us which one or ones and provide the links for us to check if they are OK. And tell us if you can see the pedestal inside the cage and the symbol on the pedestal. Bert Jamin's walkthrough in this forum is pretty good...click here |

Yes, the power is turned on. I can see the symbol because, since the cage doesn't turn I can walk in and look at it. I've tried various walkthroughs, but the problem doesn't change. I can raise the cage, open the gates, but when I move the right hand (cage rotation lever) with the grasping cursor it stays in the moved (down) position and does not return on its own. Moving it back up and trying again still doesn't activate it. The cage remains at water level with the opening still facing the first stream.

You know what, I have already finished the game and have all my saves. I went back to replay and I now have the same problems you have.
Myst V is really getting to be a real pain in the "neck". I think it beleives I am some kind of hacker trying to get inside its guts. I guess I will have to play a new game all together. |

I would try going back to an earlier saved game, and to replay up to that point. Maybe you'll get lucky. Just a thought. I had no problem with the windmill.

I beleive I have found the problem and the answer. In my case it had to do with using the classic plus mode. I also used the Bert Jammin walkthrough. His windmill puzzle is played in two sequences. No problem with the first one.
But the second sequence was real bad. Solution. (after three hours and a half I did the wind in the middle of the yard to make sure I would have access to the windmill, and after dropping the slate I had lots of time to get at the controls and I had to wait for the Bahro to come back for a long time (+- 5 min.) Note that in this second attempt, it is possible to play with the levers even without the wind but it must not be tried. Wait for the wind. This is the time and place where I could not "activate" the levers and the red button during the wind storm. The secret I have rediscovered is that you have to press keyboard #1 to get the open hand to be able to move the levers properly. BEWARE SMALL SPOILER. . . . . . . . . The second sequence is 1- Left big lever, once 2- Right small lever, once 3- Left red button, once Go to the linking bubble, again press #1 to be able to take the slate and use the appropriate symbol to link inside the cage and from there exit toward the big arena (walk in the water). Let us know if it worked for you. P.S. I have also noticed that if we get somehow stuck, the game will very often change the settings back to "classic" mode" without notice. When I find lots of free time time I am going to try combining the two sequences into a one "shot" deal like I beleive I did it in my first game. |

I won't be a ble to play for a few days. I'll try to follow your routine from a previous saved game.

I have just tried the one "shot deal" and it worked.
The only difference is you do not have to activate the big left lever a second time, only once at the beginning with the wind storm blowing. (my hat away |

I have managed to get the pedestal turned facing away from where the arena is...with the slate returned to it..but when I enter to go to the arena, alas, it is not opened. I have done this several times....how do you maneuver the 'one shot deal'? Will this work after saving the first sequence? Thank you for your help indeed...

To be able to do the one shot deal. You have to use a save game and restart at the beginning.
I never had one with only opening the door but I would suggest to try this... Get the wind going, pull left lever to get power and push the left red button only ("all the way in"/click and hold on red button) to open the door. (since everything else seems ok) Windmill controls (levers and buttons)...click here This message has been edited. Last edited by: nanoukmetal, |

Thank you for your response. I did as you suggested and I could see the gate closing, it was already open by the view from the windmill. I went through the protocol, collected the slate linked to the second pedestle to only see that the gate had actually closed. I went back to windmill to press the button again, again, I could see the gate open. I went through the steps again. When I linked back to #2 pedestle, the same thing. It is not open. This surely must be a bug. If so, what is my next step..? Thank You. Oh, incidentally, I do have a saved game at the linking point to Laki'ahn, as reference to the 'one shot' move. Thank you very much.

Then it would mean that you are in the wrong place (of four possibilties), you will have to rotate the central cage to the proper section/direction.
The Arena's cages are made in 5 sections 1- The inside/pedestal, central rotating cage. 2- Main entrance, always open. 3&4- Closed/locked sections 5- The section with the working open or close end gate, to a watery channel toward the main big Arena.
