I've tried about 50 times. I raised the pedestal from the water in the holding pen, but I can't get the controller to rotate it or to open the second gate. I pull the large (left) lever to activate the windmill, then pull the rightmost lever, and nothing happens. I push the buttons and nothing happens. Then time runs out and the storm ends.

I have the exact same problem. The right hand lever sticks in the moved position, but doesn't make the cage turn.

Heimdall G,
I use Macintosh, OS-X 10.4. Can you or someone else suggest a fix based on that platform? --Bildy |

I'm also using 10.4.3 on an iMac.

I played through the entire game on 10.4.3 without encountering this issue, so I'm not sure what may be causing it, if it is even a technical issue. Have you gone back to the cage after pulling the right-hand lever to verify that the cage isn't turning? I know in my case it's rather hard to see it happening through the bars and the blinding sandstorm.

I go back to the cage after each attempt. It still faces the entryway with access to the pedestal.
This is the 2nd time I've played the game. I Didn't have this problem the first time. I can't think of anything I'm doing differently. |

|
I too am having this problem, except that this is my 2nd time through the game and the first time I didn't have the glitch. So it can't be related to the operating system.
I also tried going back to an earlier saved game and starting this island over again, but no luck. Do I have to restart the game all over again? |

I was trying to help somebody with a similar problem so I went back to replay a saved game and could not do it anymore. I beleive it is related to some hidden files on the pc. I then decided to delete all the save games in this age except my first one at the beginning and replayed aknew. I did have to apply a different approach to the windmill puzzle. You might want to check my reply in an another thread.
SPOILERS:..click here P.S. I did notice that this second time around, very often the slate was left on the ground behind the windmill and it would not permit to move the levers during the storm but only after the storm (which was no good). It seems to be related to the slate being too near the windmill. And notice the puzzle can be made a one shot "deal". When the slate was too near, my mode settings were sometimes automatically switched to the Freemove (advanced) mode and I was able to walk right through the windmill, fly up in the air or go underground. If ever this happens to you while trying to work on the levers, hit #1 on the key board specially if the cursor does not change to full open hand. And do drop your slate in the middle of the yard instead near or behind the windmill. |

|
I've tried all the suggestions on the forums, including dropping the slate further from the windmill, etc. Each time I'm at the controls, I can see the divice above the cage rotating after I pull the right lever, but the cage always seems to stay put. Then I have to link back to the bubble to retrieve the slate and try it again.
I tried jumping ahead by using the symbol for pedestal 3, but that didn't work because I couldn't access pedestal 2 to get back to the bubble. Maddening!!!! |

The only way I could try to help you would be for you to write a small walkthrough sequence showing how you would be doing the windmill puzzle for the first time. Similar to the one I have used for the second part...click here
If you think I am asking for too much... well I am sorry. I cannot see anything else except the fact that if you are not replaying from the beginning of the age, your sequence is now well all mixed up. Also make sure to hear Esher speech at the beginning of the age. I beleive it is needed to "activate" the age. P.S. I was going to suggest to do it in the spoiler forum but now see the moderator was faster than me. This message has been edited. Last edited by: nanoukmetal, |

i dont remember which, but one of the buttons does absolutely nothing. when you do find the correct one, it only rotates 90 degrees, so you must pull it twice, get the symbol, then go back!
|

It is the right red button which is not working

I've tried the suggestion of changing to/from classic and classic plus modes. No effect. I have noticed that when the wind is blowing and I move the left and middle levers, there's a slight clicking sound, as one would expect when moving levers. There is no sound at all from the (non-functioning) right lever. The top of the enclosure rotates, but the cage doesn't move. The left button has opened the gate, but without the cage facing the arena, it's of no use.
Here's what I do: (SPOILERS HERE!) (The pedestal is up out of the water and usable.) 1. Draw the wind symbol and drop the slate near the corner of the "cage building". 2. Go to the windmill. The wind starts before I get there. 3. Pull the left lever. (It clicks.) 4. Pull the right lever. (It doesn't click) The top of the tower is now rotating, but peering through the dust, it looks like the cage isn't turning. 5. Leave the windmill and go to the waterway. (Wind may stop about now) Alas! the cage still allows me to wade right up to the cage and link to the bubble. Over and over and over and over... |

You seem to have the wrong sequence which should be
1- pull left big lever 2- pull small left (center lever)and wait lever return 3- push left red button 4- pull small right lever and wait for return 5- push red left button 6- go to linking bubble, to inside rotating cage to check 7- and now is the time for part two, to finish the puzzle You must have used a counterfeit Bert Jamming walkthrough which is very innacurate. check the real one here...click here |
|||
|
Well, Nanoukmetal, I tried the sequence you suggested, and also the Bert Jamming walkthru you recommended, but the â£â¢âˆžâ§â¶ cage still won't rotate. The center lever does raise and lower it; the left button does open and close the gate. But the right lever does nothing. It won't return to its "up" position after I pull it. I assume that it is supposed to return when the cage has rotated 90 degrees. But my cage just doesn't turn.
Of course it's pointless to jump ahead to the next pedestal because I would have to have rotated the cage to get back there again. As I said before, this is my second time to play (this time with a friend), and the first time I had no problems like this. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hi Bildy47,
I went back to replay the age. I first deleted all save games except the first one after Esher's speech. Did notice two new problems(for me). 1- I went directly to the windmill and the Bahro did not accept my windstorm symbol ( six times). the solution: you absolutely must first visit the inside of the big arena to have a look at the sunken "object" for the wind to be accepted. 2- Because I was making a mistake at the windmill control levers and button, it was not working properly. My solution: when you push the red button the first and second time, you must hold the click long enough for the red button to go all the way in. Could that be your "bug" ? |
|||
|
Well, at least I tried it. Holding the button in until it clicks isn't the problem. In fact, the gate opens readily. At first I thought it wasn't, but apparently I just couldn't see well enough in the sandstorm.
I re-started the age from the beginning save, listened to Esher, went into the enclosure, saw the submerged pedestal, went around back, drew the wind symbol, went to the windmill, pulled the left lever(I noticed that the top of the cage tower was rotating even before I pulled the left lever, but it didn't appear that the cage itself was moving.), pulled the center lever (and watched as the pedestal rose in the cage and the lever returned to its starting position), pressed and held the left button (and watched the gate open), pulled the right lever (which did not return to its up position). Nothing more happened until the wind stopped. I went to the pedestal, got the symbol, linked to the bubble, got the slate, drew the 2nd pedestal symbol, linked back to it, and went to the windmill. I noticed that the right lever was still in its down position, and that the top of the tower was not rotating. I activated the left lever again, then the right one. Still the tower top didn't turn. I tried 2 or 3 times with the right lever. No effect. I wouldn't return up on its own. I had to move it. I went back to the pedestal in the cage, and it was the same as when I had recently linked here... no rotation had occurred. Nanouk, o lord of the MYSTerious, have you any other suggestions? |

You will not like to know what I think so just consider the possibilty.
You seem to be missing a file. Is it a defective dvd or a defective hard disk segment ? For the moment, I would make a post to the technical and help forum with a link to this thread to show that you have tried checking for all spoilers. I would first make many kind of copies of the game sav file. the first one with everything, the second one with deleted save games (in the book) until the beginning of Laki'ahn and another one with only the saves from a previous ages, lets say the second last one to make sure there is no overlap between the two ages. After having made all those different sav copies, I would try a complete new installation after deleting the game from the hard disk. BEWARE HERE: there is going to be at least one hidden file left to delete before you re-install. Check very carefully down the "clean-boot" EoA re-install/previous installation near the bottom of this help page...click here SPECIALLY the line "use window explorer to find vpd.properties BUT B4 doing any of this, I would ask "the technical and help" forum what is their view about all this. I hope they will suggest something much easier.Also change the title of the new thread. P.S. you could try playing a new game with a new name. Play the great shaft first section and then go directly to Laki'ahn and see if you can get through this puzzle. Or create a new account on your PC and replay everything from there. As a precaution I have a last question: when you try to pull the right lever is your cursor "hand" fully open ? If it is not, it would mean your game settings are automatically changed without warning you. It does happen to me all the time. In that case hit the #1 and try again. This message has been edited. I would follow Nanouk's advice, but I don't use Windows. I'm a Mac Dude (OS-X 10.4.4 on a 1-year old iMac G5). I guess I could un-install the game, and re-install it. I think I'll try starting a new game first. If anyone has any more ideas, I'd love to hear from you.

It would be a good idea to start a new game B4 new install. I would suggest, if you do, that when you get to the point of going to the different ages, choose Laki'ahn first. So if it goes wrong again you will not have played all the other ages for nothing. Good luck.
