I have played the start of Myst V twice now and both times there has been a glitch in Tahgira at the pipes/pond. I have never been able to complete the pond/cross the pond. Both times, after working on the switches for a while the slate has disappered. Both times it automatically went to the Keep, totally skipping the graveyard area. The Bahro did not pick up the slate, it actually disappeared right out of my hands. Can't find any patches. Has anyone else experienced this?

Although i dont have this glitch, i just finished this age and might be able to help you. If you played with the switches, it means you turned on the heat. But to turn on the heat you wrote on the slate. The Bahro had to take it and transport it back to the begining of the age before it was turned on. So im a little confused

Hi mammavan2all,

I experienced the exact same thing in Taghira last night. I had been fiddling with the levers at the pipes/pond for quite sometime. I had been adjusting the red levers for a while and had switched to the blue levers. I drew the symbol for heat, and dropped the slate by the blue levers. After the bahro brought heat, I went back to the levers and also picked up the slate and then started working with the levers. Then I noticed that the slate was gone. At first I thought I just must not have picked it back up in time before the bahro ran off with it. But then when I went to retrieve it, it was on the pedestal by the bridge instead of back in the bubble. I took the slate back to the levers and brought the heat again. The slate again dissappeared and this time I *knew* that I had retrieved it. The slate was on the pedestal by the huts/trees this time. And there was a new symbol lit up on the slate that I had not seen before. I linked to the symbol and it turns out it was the graveyard. I talked to Esher and continued on with the game. It functioned normally after that.

At first I thought that maybe I solved the puzzle correctly (just got the levers in the right place...didn't figure out to actually try to cross the pond on the path yet) and that the symbol was supposed to appear after successful placement of all the levers. But I wanted to make sure. That's when I checked the forum and realized that indeed, I had completely skipped over the whole walking accross the pond part. My slate is in the Keep now. But the funny thing is that the blue levers are *still* in the wrong place. ha ha!

Hopefully, that will be the only glitch I experience.

Michele

This is a known bug/glitch that you kind find quite a bit discussion about if you do a search. People have said that if they loaded a save game or quit and restarted the game the problem went away.

And the one with the symbol showing up for the keep... it will always be the one of the far right of the pedestal in all the ages so now you know if it happens again, don't link to it until you have the other symbols!!

My slate is locked down at the Keep so I can't test this, but...

what happens if the heat cuts out when you're midway across the pond? Are you trapped there? Do you just slide back to the side you started from?

Unless I'm mistaken, once you're on the lake, the heat doesn't switch off until you step off of the lake... if the timer runs down to zero, it just waits for you to finish. Uru actually has a similar timer in one of its puzzles: the Teledahn bucket timer will wait for you to finish climbing into the bucket before taking off, even if the timer runs down to zero before the animation finishes.

I do not know if it was a bug in my game but the first I tried to cross the lake, I did run out of time, the lake became frozen and my avatar was stuck in the "ice" and could not move anymore. I had to go to the save book and re-do the lake puzzle. The only good news was that the levers were left in the right notches.

I too ran out of time while I was in the lake when attempting to get across the first time. I was able to wiggle my way out though...so it didn't seem like a bug to me... just was a little tricky and irritating to find a spot that got me back on land.
