Hi All,
New boy asking the questions here, so please be patient. I am new to Myst, and have just purchased Myst V. I have never played Myst before, and although I'm settling into the gameplay and slowly working out the puzzles, I'm not sure WHY I'm doing all this, and don't undertand the background, or the aim of walking round in different worlds, writing on a bit of cement! Can you point me in the direction of an article or web page that will enlighten me on the wonders of the Myst Wolrd. Thanks all, Jon. |

Welcome Barber1978. One of our members, Mowog, posted some thoughts here that might help you:
HERE My advice would be to relax and try to enjoy it. Replay Esher's words (in the notebook) to know what your immediate goals are and relize that this is the ending to the Myst Saga that you may have to play yourself sometime to really get the flavor. Good luck |

I wouldn't start with the end first. Kind of like reading the last chapter of a book first!
I started with III then did IV and V and am now playing Myst (I) and Riven (II). I wish I had started in order... a lot of things would have made more sense and been more fulfilling. _____________ Bula, Bula, Bula! (Welcome, Be Happy, We Love Youâ€"Fijian) |

Hi Dara,
Thanks for this ... so, even though I'm new to your world (so to speak) the story is as vague to you, as it is to me!!! |

Hi BulaRae, I played the games from the beginning and agree that would be ideal, but I like to meet players where they are and - since these games are not cheap - encourage them to get as much out of them as possible. There's enough in Myst V to pique the interest, I think, so that they can then go back and play the games they've missed.
For those who would like to play the old games, ebay is the best and cheapest source I've found. Amazon is good also. |

Hi Barber1978, actually I'm well-versed in the story, but it would take ages (hehe) to tell it to you with the depth and nuance it deserves. Let me give you a thumbnail synopsis:
Atrus and Catherine had three children, two very naughty boys, Syrus and Achenar, who plundered and destroyed the worlds their father wrote and Yeesha who came along later and tried to set it right. Esher comes in at the end of the story and that's where you are now. Oh, yes, I forgot about Atrus' crazed father Ghen. I don't think that helps very much, but maybe someone else will fill in. There really is no way to completely understand other than to play the games for yourself. |
