There was so many discussions in the past about the main reason for a Myst 5 game that I have choosen to make this special post.

After a question from coldfire582. I read some of the older posts and found one made by Mr Zebe D that should ring "big bells". At the time, most of us did "not" see and/or understood all the implications about a very special fact. We knew about it but it passed through our mind like a neutrino can pass through our planet without hitting any other particules.

Mr Zebe D had the most important explanation. With time, it becomes much more apparent.

A question in the back of my mind re: all the Myst games...
Could the leather covers of all the Myst linking books be made of the same kind of skins ?

But then how does Gehn get linking to work in Riven?

Gehn uses a primitive form of the D'ni linking technology. It is clumsy, and uses an enormous amount of energy - one of the two major puzzles in Riven is how to turn on the power for the linking books.

I was trying to show a link between Uru CC and Myst 5. RE: a secret about big and small linking spheres (many shapes like the Bahro caves in Uru and Uru CC)

Check the first picture very carefully in the last post. You will see Ahnonay Cathedral (fly mode view). At the right, below the ceiling, you can see a small bubble and at the left you should see a small one below a bigger one. Most people thought that they were lamps but if you read the text, you will see I have discovered something else.

Gehn needed power to force his linking books to work because he didn't have the exact materials needed to make efficient linking books.

But he had similar materials that worked as substitutes (as long as they were powered.)

However, nothing he had came close to the "leather" that nanoukmetal is talking about.

So the books don't need that "leather" to work, which leads to the question: why use it at all?

Pure speculations on my side of the pound.

1- Books are much easier to draw.

2- Different people working at different periods along the project, who did it their way.

3- The time when Stephan Martiniere came on bord for Uru seems to have been a big turning point. He was more mechanically inclined, liked big "machines" and if you visit his gallery you will see he was ahead of his time...click here
