Folks,

I am a bit stuck.

(and lost because I can't find the post which I was previously posting.)

In the ice age, Bula said something like:

"As usual you have to look for subtle differences when you move the levers"

Subtle?

Sheesh! If it is subtle, women must scream their thoughts. Too Happy

I have found the two "sections" (Red and Blue) pipes to the "ice field" and played with the switches, but don't see any subtle changes.

I am confused in do I need power first, or is it power which I am trying to connect?

One thing I have noticed is that some of the levers/switches my hand doesn't seem to work on all whole length of the switch arm. Only parts.

Also when I move the switches (say) right when I release the mouse button, my hand is twice as far to the right as I moved it.

Likewise moving to the left, my hand is twice as far to the left as I moved it.

Is this a glitch, or one of these subtle hints Ubi are trying to give me?

I don't want a "This is what you do" but I am stuck in understanding HOW what I need to do is done.

whisper

I also am finding it annoying in the mode I am in (the middle one) that pointing to where I want to do is not always very.... intuitive.

Crying

I can see the other "slate" over the "ice field" and I can kind of understand about the "sun" symbol I have seen - but getting it all to come together is annoying to say the least.

Anyway, I have also found the two "joints" where the 3 pipes come together, with their respective 3 coloured dots of red or blue and what I think is a button in the middle.

But as I said, if I don't have any "power" I can't do much. ie: Hand doesn't allow any actions to these "devices".

Any way, I'd better shut up now and let someone read this and give me a hint.

Thanks in advance.

Ok shy_kitten, here's a hint. Do you remember what Escher told you the last time he talked to you? (If you want to refresh your memory, everything he says is recorded in one of the journals in the upper right corner of the screen.) Hope this helps. Dave

P.S. To try and answer your questions about the mechanics;
When you ask about the switches I assume you're talking about the ones at the huts. I also found that my cursor would end up farther over after releasing them so I guess this is just a glich of some kind.
As to the movement mode, I used the free-move mode (the third choice, because I got used to it in URU and liked the freedom of movement) so, I can't help you there, perhaps someone else can.

Personnally I used the classic plus mode and with a right click I freeze the screen. As for the levers for some strange reasons it is easier if you point your cursor at the rounded center of the levers. You do not have to rush at this stage because once you are satisfied with their new position they will stay in place. You do not have to do both side at the same time.

It really sounds like you've got the info you need, you just need to make the connection of how to tie it all together.

Have you played with the symbol you saw on the wall near the beginning of the age?

So if you've been moving the levers and not seeing anything change, how about if you think outside the box and try using the symbol to see if a different result shows up?

If you you want a full spoiler you are always free to ask, otherwise we are always going to give you hints so you can have the joy of figuring it out yourself. But sometimes it's just too maddening and it helps to just "cheat" Wink

Guys,

Thanks for the replies.

I shall have to look into it a bit more.

Bula,

WRT the sumbol, I'm guessing you mean the "sun" one?

Yeah, and I see it is powerful.

In regards to what I have been told, Yes I sat down and went through all the journals and read something about "if you bring heat...." so I am trying to piece together all that.

Anyway, maybe tonight I will have another go.

I'm having a bit of trouble, too. I used the "sun" symbol, and got that desired result. But only one set of switches work. And they control only a small portion of the "path". Any hints or strong nudges?

Yes, a little nudge on the red and blue switches. I found for either set, red or blue, that one switch (in each set) had to be set correctly before the other two would do anything, so I would start there. I just continued trying the combinations until all three of one set did something. Then tweek it between the red and blue sets until you have what looks like a complete solution.

Clear as mud, right?

Thanks, Chuckles! Only the blue ones work right now, so I'll continue to experiment with those. The red ones don't operate yet.

Hey guys!

I'm a bit further down the track.

Big hint comming up so if you don't want it, look away now.

WRT the sun symbol:

That produces pressure which lifts the switches.
You can then move them. I found it very annoying because of something in the game. Turning down (oh so slightly) the mouse sensitivity helped.

Then you walk over the "ice".

urikrak, if the red levers don't pop up could it be because there isn't full steam pressure going to them? Dave

P.S. shy_kitten, congrats on getting across the pond!

Hi again guys.

Reading the things you were saying about both set os switches not poping up.

The trick is this.

(Semi spoiler)

When you do the thing with the slate and the steam is "Happening" look above all the little "tents" (buildings with the switches on them) and see if you can see something.

All of them - in the set - have to be doing the same thing for the switches/levers to pop up.

Anyway, on that, after crossing the "ice" it seems I can not use that way anymore.

No problems as I can use the slate, but it is annoying if you forget to have it with you. Wink

I'll bable some more in another thread.

Good luck guys.

I am nearly finished that age, but the "play fetch" trick has me stumped.
