Today, Jan 29, 2008.
I have edited out the previous infos about a possible in game flymode after receiving an email from a friend who told me it was not working for him.

I went back to my game and could not reproduce it anymore.

I am very sorry to have told you about this one time experience.

Please forgive me. Sad Eyes

Confused

Okay, for the benefit of us naive, computer-illiterate types: What is flymode? How do i 'get' it? What does it do? Where did all those pictures come from?

Remember, i don't have the first idea so a jargon-less answer would be nice.

Thanks freinds.

Since RealMyst, the URU trilogy and Myst V are rendered in realtime 3D, you can wander around their ages freely within certain limits.
Clever fans have "hacked" the game files and developed ways to remove the barriers, so that you can move anywhere, even up and down, as if you're flying. Hence the term flymode.

On the one hand, flymode destroys the illusion that the ages are "real", for once you stray beyond the places Cyan intended you to go, you'll notice gaps in the "world", strange perspectives etcetera. In the other hand, you can admire the amount of detail they added even in places where it's not strictly necessary for the game.

In my opinion, you should never install and try flymode before having completely finished a game.

Thanks for the info guys.
There's no point in installing since I uninstalled Myst V as soon as i'd completed it to free up harddrive space. Sounds interesting though.

Hi all,
You find the oddest things when you are exploring in fly mode. One thing I've come across on several worlds is a static model of Esher,on ice, so to speak. I guess he is preloaded for each world, usually underground or underwater, away from the center of action. I've come across him on Myst Island and Tahgira but haven't looked elsewhere (maybe we need "Where's Esher?"). On Todelmer, while skimming through space I came across the video options screen floating in space. No text on it, just the boxes. Finally, on Laki, just underneath the area on the beach in front of the weighted boulder puzzle, there is a yellow box. Not quite sure what this is. There's nothing inside. Anyway, here's the link to the pictures. Fly Mode Pictures

Here is a very special one under Bevin at the start. It very difficult to find because you have to close in at a special angle (+- sideway from left to right on the screen)
At first, you only see a black dot, then one Bahro. When you get near enough, you can stand right beterrn the two rows.

Yeesha and her Bahro friends.

There are a few boxes too just under the sphere and if my memory is good we can see something on one of them like an image projection.

Btw, you have my permission to use any of my personnal pictures from any forums here, to and on your web site.
Right click the picture above, left the properties'line and check for my URL which will tell you if it is me. (yandefia)

P.S. You still have to get a Laki whale picture taken under water level. First watch them from above water to be above their path, then you have to wait 3-5 minutes for them to come back, you have to be in running mode if you want to see them a bit longer. For best picture, you have to catch them sideway. (they are very fast)

Thanks for the pics. The boxes here and there are odd. Leftover objects that weren't removed? I didn't take any static pictures of the whales but I have a couple movies on my site. Laki Whales

Pretty good show loneshieling. It did bring back many good memories specially the Lakis dance. They sure look like big birds in your video. I also remembered that when I followed them the first time, they seemed to put up the dance specially for us like if they were happy to see visitors. Veryhappy Veryhappy

I found out about fly mode on the Myst games, and even though I had been threw all of the games the Myst 1-5 several times their where always places I wanted to go but could not, from what I hear Flymode can enable you to do just that. It definitly generated in interest in exploring the games onces again. brushing the dust off of some of the CD's that have been on the shelf for years.

I have looked threw out the web and have found no flymode patch for myst-5 and the one on this thread is a dead link. I was curios if such a patch is still avalable or if any one could direct me to where I could possible find one.

Following a big debate about flymodes at Mystonline UruLive, some of us beleive that Cyan and or Ubisoft have made a move and asked the people providing the downloads to stop it.

At the present times, I beleive that you could only get it through a friend. I am aware of some people in Europe who tried to send copies through emails but it did not work.

As far as I know, flymode patches can only be downloaded through a "hosting" server site.

You could try asking at an unofficial site like
UruObsession...

its a shame thier so hard to find, I have been looking at all of the wonderfull pictures from flymode, (I know some of the best pics in real life are nothing more then being in the right place at the right time) this gives a person a chance to explore the whole game, although I can't see using them to cheat that just takes the fun out of everything but I do injoy figuring out how stuff is made, (I have always been the curios type) and as I said before it has generated a new intrest in the Myst Games for me. the possiblities could be seemingly endless

ordinaraly I would have gone threw the game wondered around a bit, and as enjoyable as it was I would have unistaled it knowing I can always go back and check it out later. but with all the stuff you can see threw Flymode and the fan created ages thier is just so much more to the game im thinking of putting them all on a seperate hard drive just in case I missed something, and thanks for the Flymode patch, it has kept me quite occupied. places to go things to see. I even found a resipe under the Myst library its similare to deviled eggs I have not tryed it yet but I typed it out as a doc file for when I get around to it.

I honestly can not remember any game holding my interest for so long with or without flymode or fan created ages
