I looked through the small telescope and saw three glowing symbols. I went to the bubble, wrote a symbol on the slate, and set it down. A Bahro came and put the slate in the holder. I went back in the bubble, and the symbol to get to the Keep was there. I pressed it and boom I'm in the Keep and done with the age. What's with that? I've probably done less than half of Todelmer.

This is the single most reported bug in the game. There are several long threads about the same problem.

You're only meant to draw symbols that have the age tablet shape around them. Do you have an earlier saved game?

Yeah, I've got saved games. But what happens if I just go ahead and explore Todelmer in this game? Will I miss anything?

You really can't get around Todelmer without the Slate, so I imagine the answer to your question would be yes.
