I have the OsX version of Myst V. After spending 3 hours trying to get beyond the inner cage in Laki'ahn I looked at the solution book that came with Myst V. I tried it, 4 times from a fresh start, and it doesn't work. I looked at network cheats, tried two of those 5 times each with no success. After pulling the right lever the requisite number of times the inner cage always opens onto the cage container next to the portions that continues on to the area. Are there any suggestions or hints about this that I might try?

If the cage isn't opening onto the correct pathway, re-draw the wind symbol and turn the cage around a few more times. Having not verified the guide against the final result in the game, I can't say for certain that the guide is actually correct in this instance, but if it's not working, I'd suggest striking out on your own to try and solve it .

I'm on a Mac and had no trouble with that puzzle. I did peek at the guide that came with the game just to confirm what I thought I was doing anyway (at first I didn't realize I could see the cage clear enough from the controls).

Like Alahmnat said though, it often helps not to try to blindly follow someone else's instructions if you don't understand what you are trying to accomplish.

So just to clarify, your objective is to adjust the pedestal to ground level and rotate the cage so you can enter it from the other side (where the water entrance is).

This is a puzzle where you have to do some back-and-forthing.

Make your wind blow, go up to the controls and move just one lever and watch the result you'll get. Then move another, etc. One lever adjusts height, one rotates and is there a third? Sorry I can't remember at the moment.

You might have to make your wind blow and go back up there several times.

In between tries, go all the way back down and around in the water and up to the cage to see if you have rotated it correctly and lowered it to the right level if you can't tell for sure from your controls.

I was similarly stuck and also baffled by the vague instructions in walkthroughs until I realized that the cage had to be left in a 1/4 turn position (with the tablet pedestal turned sideways to you when you look at it from the entrance).

When I did this, the open side of the cage faced the arena gate. I had already used the left button to get the arena gate open, so I got in.
