While working with the pipe puzzle I dropped my slate to begin crossing to far side of pond. Never made it to far side so I went to retrieve slate from bubble. I noticed a new symbol on right side of pedestal. Clicking on it to me to the Keep. Since I had not completed journey through the age I assume the early appearance of the symbol is a bug. BTW, I repeated the "error" after opening a new game. Any similar experiences? Is a fix coming?

I have a very similar problem, but it is happening in at least two ages. When I draw a symbol on the slate that should allow me access to the next pedestal, Bahro (or what ever that creture is) brings the slate back to the pedastal, but the new available linking symbol is completely different than what I had drawn and it gives me access to the keep. I've completed Todelmer without ever going to any of the towers.

Assuming you're running Win XP, try re-installing EoA from a clean boot as detailed in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP.

Although I did not experience exactly what you are describing, a similar type of "bug" happened to me. See my reply to mammavan2all (I think her post has been put in the Hints,Tips, and Spoilers section) titled "weird happenings in Tahgira at pipes/pond".
