Ok, probably moot, but as I keep going past them and looking.
This post may be considdered a SPOILER if you have not got too far in this age, so read on at your own risk. Though what I am saying is not (IMHO) any help, it may be considdered a spoiler. The original problem is that they are blocking the path. Fair enough... Now, there are these "telescopes" which are on remote islands and controled by cables. My take is that the cables to one of the telescopes have been cut. Reason unknown and not important I guess. In "the red room" there are controls for the 4 different telescopes. Moving the levers on the different screens controls the different scopes. So, now let's think about HOW the telescopes are controled. There are 2 axis of movement. Up/Down and Left/Right. (I won't go into how you get the zoom function happening and take it as "magic") Looking at the cables, there are 4 of them (visible when you have set the levers correct and can walk past what was the blockage.) used to control the telescope. 2 pairs. 1 pair does the Up/Down and the other the Left/Right. Agree? So my question is this: The cables are blocking the path. That's a gimmie. Moving the levers is supposed to move the position of the telescope but because the cables have been cut, they fall in a heap on the path. So, moving the lever somehow pulls in all the cable and clears the path. It can't work like that. As one cable is pulled in, the other of the pair must pay out cable as much as the other one is pulling in. So basically it can't work. Am I wrong? Just discussing. |

well, don't know about "wrong" but I think you may be overthinking it a bit!
my take on it is that the telescopes move side to side and up/down. The tension being held by the connected cables, but if we were able to see after a move, I figured we'd see slack in the cables or taught-ness, either way since we weren't shown a cable spool or source. So to me, the moving of the telescope knobs all the way to each side retracted the cables enough to pull them off the path by taking up slack. _____________ Bula, Bula, Bula! Try moving the levels/knobs to the most extremes and see how things change then. Does the pile change in height? If so, how can you change/move them so you can get them out of the way?

Be sure to listen to clues. You'll hear when the cable has moved away completely.

Maserda and Dara, I know you love to help, but you didn't read his post carefully. He's not asking for help. He's discussing after the fact whether or not the puzzle was logical and realistic and how we were supposed to figure out the mechanics of moving the cables. It's a discussion, not a plea.

You are correct in the sense that while pulling the cable in one direction, that the other would pay out.... assuming that all were still connected.
Since the cables were cut, operating the pulley set that is associated with them would still pull some cable in (and thus off the path), but would likely just pile up under the pulley since there is no tension from the far pillar anymore. Your deduction is correct, but so is the game in this case! |
