While trying to follow Heimdall G's excellent step by step instructions, I ran into an unexpected problem. While reconfiguring Startup, when I reach the point "click OK" (after choosing "Hide All Microsoft Services" and clicking "Disable All") an error message appears:

An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to try using an Administrator account to make the specified changes.

But I double- triple-checked and I already *have* administrator privileges in this account! Do I just simply proceed as if no message appeared?

P.S. Heimdall, is this common enough that your instructions could provide the work around?

No, it's not all that common and is typically due to:
-- Logging into a Power User or Limited User account.
-- Having ZoneAlarm installed and not giving Msconfig the proper ZA Program Control permissions, and/or having both ZA and the Windows built-in firewall active at the same time.
-- Having an HP printer with updated drivers.
-- Having McAfee or certain other system security software installed.

Just click on OK and proceed as if you hadn't gotten the error message.

Oh, good. That's what I ended up doing.

1) I knew I wasn't in a Limited User or Power User account, since I had purposely set up an Administrator account in order to run Revelation.

2) I think my problem was the Zone Alarm permissions, since ZA is new to me. I had just installed it (and disabled the Windows Firewall) after seeing your suggestion in the instructions, so msconfig definitely did not yet have their blessing.

3) Although - who knows? - it could be the HP printer too. With a new computer, my HP had just updated its drivers.

4) No McAfee. I use AVG free.

Thanks for your quick response. The nagging fears leftover from my luddite past have been relieved.
