I tried to find the answer to this, really I did. I looked in the Paint help menu and I googled it. But probably no one mentions it because it's too obvious.
How do I select the tool that just grabs and moves an image around on a page? When I first paste a screencap onto a page, it is that tool that the cursor shows automatically. But after I cut out a specific part of an image and paste it onto another page, I still have the cut tool and I don't know how to get back the one I need to move the image. |

It would help if you could tell us what it is exactly you are trying to acheive. MS Paint is a very basic tool.
Btw, do you know how to cut/trim an image on all four sides ? Here is a general rule: After cutting/trimming an image, you first need to register/save it in your image folder. From the top menu... File Tab/save as/to your image folder/plus enter a title/click register (or save) |

Yes, I left that out didn't I? I do know to do that.
I haven't been trimming, I've been cutting out the section I want by using the tool labeled "Select," the one that looks as if it's a dotted rectangle. I click and drag the crosshairs to create the part I want. Then I click Ctrl+C, open a new document, and click Ctrl+V on the blank page. But then I cannot move the image on the page to center it, if necessary, or even move it to the edge so it will print what I need to see. |

I do not beleive it cannot be done with MS Paint.
Why do you want to center the image in MS Paint ? To make a print, go to the MS Paint File Tab and click the print line inside the menu. |

To center a copied image part in MS Paint:
-- a. With an image on the Paint page, click on Select (the dotted rectangle icon). -- b. Use the cursor to select the part of the image to be copied. -- c. Press Ctrl-C. -- d. Click on File > New. -- e. Press Ctrl-V. -- f. Place the cursor anywhere in the pasted image to obtain a 4-headed arrow. -- g. While holding down the left mouse button, drag the image to center it on the page. Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |

OK, yes. That works the 1st time.
But once I "Save As," and go copy and paste something else maybe, and then come back . . . all I've got is the "Select" rectangle tool. If I click and drag, all that happens is that I cut out another rectangle. I can change to any other tool by selecting it on the toolbar. But there is no "grab and move" tool (the four-headed one) available to choose once another tool is active. |

OK, so you "Save As," and go copy and paste something else maybe, and then come back to the original copied image part. At that point, just click on Select and outline the original copied image part again (as in, outline it with the dashed line using the circle in the plus sign cursor). After you do that, you'll get the "grab and move" tool back.

I must be really out of it after work. I realized this morning that it would probably have been simpler to just ask it this way:
Once I've selected a tool, how do I return to the grabber tool? If I understand correctly, H_G, you're saying that if I use the "select" tool to simply outline the entire picture, then the cursor (while placed over the picture) will revert to the grabber. Is that right? This message has been edited. Last edited by: LynComeLately, |

Yes, that's right.
Here are some MS Paint "how to" articles. Paint can do *lots* more than is commonly realized! -- How To Use Microsoft Paint -- Microsoft Paint! Creative Graphics Practicum -- Learn to use the tools and make pictures with MS Paint (very complete!) -- Windows Accessory: Microsoft Paint Program (4 pages) -- How to Use Microsoft Paint in Windows (see also the Related wikiHows) -- PAINT Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |

Wow!
Most of those I had found while searching before I started this thread, but none of them name the grabber, nor do they tell you how to "find" it again after having selected another tool. Like I said, it probably just seemed too obvious. Now I can try again to create my Mangree collage. |
