Hi
I know my problem sounds like others posted here but I think it's a little different. Can anybody help please?
I have installed Myst 4 successfully.
I have all the latest drivers and Ubi have confirmed my system is OK.
I have installed the latest patches available too.
When I put disc 2 in my dvd drive the first menu page appears. I then select play Myst 4. A brown book appears with a hand in the centre, but it is frozen. I doesn't crash and return to my desktop. It just remains on the screen frozen.
I have to remove the disc and reboot the PC. I'm beginning to wonder if I have a rogue disc.
Roy.

A corrupted (rogue?) DVD from a game's publisher is rare. However, if you believe you've got a bad one, try returning it for an exchange.

The two most common problems with Revelation are:
-- A DVD drive that needs to have its firmware updated.
-- An unsupported video chipset.

1. Revelation does NOT support all types of video chipsets. The SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS on the back of the Revelation slipcase/box and the Ubisoft Store's Revelation website list the ONLY video chipsets supported by Revelation:
-- ATI Radeon 7000 to 9800 or better
-- NVIDIA GeForce 1/2/3/4/FX families
-- Matrox Parhelia (PC only)
-- Intel i865G to i915G (PC only)

The laptop/notebook versions of these chipsets are not fully supported!

If you don't have a supported chipset, you probably won't be able to play Revelation. If that's your situation, you'll need to install a video card with a supported chipset.
-- a. If you have a laptop/notebook PC with an unsupported video chipset, you're almost certainly SOL with regard to playing Revelation. The vast majority of laptop/notebook PC's can NOT have their video chipsets replaced or upgraded.
-- b. Assuming that you have a desktop PC and your motherboard has the slot, install an AGP video card with a supported chipset. This is much preferable to a PCI card, but if there's not an AGP slot, a PCI card is your only option.
-- c. For Radeon cards, buy a card with a chipset model number higher than 9250. (Stay away from anything with 9200 or 9250 in the model number, since these chipset models have probably been the cause of the most video problems with the Myst series.) For NVIDIA cards, buy a GeForce FX with a chipset model number of 5200 or higher.
-- d. And before you buy, make certain that the new card can be used with your motherboard - not all video cards work with all motherboards. Also, some recent video cards require a power supply upgrade to function properly.

2. To find a firmware update for your DVD drive, go to your PC or drive manufacturer's website. Or, go to CDRinfo's firmware page (select drive type > manufacturer > model to find your firmware) or The Firmware Page.
-- a. Make very certain that you know *exactly* which model drive you have. Installing the wrong firmware on a drive is almost guaranteed to kill it. You can use Nero's InfoTool if you don't know:
----- 1. Close all open applications.
----- 2. Download Infotool.zip. If Infotool.zip doesn't unzip automatically when downloading is complete, use WinZip or WinRar to extract the zipped files to a folder on your hard disk.
----- 3. Click on Start > Run and Browse: to the folder in which you saved the extracted files.
----- 4. Double-click on InfoTool.exe to put it in the Open: box, then click on OK to run InfoTool.
----- 5. Allow the "retrieving information" progress bar to move completely to the right, at which point the InfoTool interface will appear. This may take a couple of minutes, so wait for it.
----- 6. Your drive's model number will appear in the top left corner of the interface page. The firmware version will appear in the right-hand column opposite Firmware Version:.
-- b. Follow the firmware installation instructions *carefully*. In particular, do NOT run any programs or access the Internet, or shut down your PC, while the firmware update is in progress.

3. If you have a supported video chipset, try installing the proper driver for Revelation. Note that this may not be the latest version available! See Myst IV: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP, as well as Myst IV: Miscellaneous Fixes for Video Problems.

4. If you have a supported video chipset, have updated your DVD drive's firmware, and have installed the proper video driver, try re-installing Revelation from a clean boot. See Myst IV: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP, and pay special attention to the Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up With Win XP section and the Installing and Re-Installing Revelation With Win XP, "In general, any or all of the following may be necessary to prevent Revelation installation problems" section. Some of the items in this latter section may also be required to play Revelation.

And if none of the above help, post a DxDiag report in this topic so that we can take a look at your system and maybe make recommendations. See [Posting Guidelines] Help! I'm Having Technical Problems and I Don't Know Why!?! under To post a DxDiag report for a how-to. Run all of the graphics and sound tests you can before saving the report to a file, and post *all* of the file. If the manufacturer and exact model number of your PC aren't shown under 'System Information' (System Manufacturer and System Model) at the top of the report, also be certain to include that information in your post.

Did you download and run InfoTool as per step 2, above? If so *exactly* what did it show for DVD drive model and firmware version?

And what model Medion PC do you have? Maybe an MD-1704 or an MD-8000?

Hi
Many thanks again for helping.
My PC's model is only described as AWRDACPI.
My dvd drive is only described as IDE DVD 16x. It's firmware version is described as 3.10.
Hope this is OK.
Regards,
Roy.

Without meaningful Medion PC and DVD drive model numbers, the only things I can suggest are:

1. Try installing the proper video driver for Revelation. Note that this may not be the latest version available! See Myst IV: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP, particularly under INSTALLING NVIDIA DRIVERS WITH WIN XP, "Some older video chipsets...." See also Myst IV: Miscellaneous Fixes for Video Problems.

2. If the proper video driver doesn't help, try re-installing Revelation from a clean boot.

Hi
I'm still struggling.
However, I have discovered that my Medion pc is a Powerstar 2660 with an Artec DHI-G40 dvd rom.

Roy.

No, afraid not.
It appears I have the latest firmware for my dvd drive too.
It looks like I may have to try the clean boot, although it looks a bit technical for me.
Tweaking the bios is definitely out of my league.

Roy.

If you're not familiar (or are uncomfortable) with making changes to your system BIOS, it's best not to attempt doing so.

And don't overlook the rest of Myst IV: Miscellaneous Fixes for Video Problems.
