I had Myst 4 installed on my pc but unfortunately an error forced me to have to reformat my system, after I reinstalled the game I tried to run but was unable to do so, a message came up saying that I need to set my desktop at 32 bits, but it already was at 32 bits. Any ideas anyone?

After reformatting, did you check the properties for your video settings. Right click on the screen and click properties. Look under settings and see if it say's 32 bit. It gives you a choice of 16 or 32 bit. It is just a thought but it doesn't hurt to look. I imagine Heimdall will come on and give some better advice. Good luck.

If you had to reformat and reinstall your system, I suspect you will have a lot of updating to be able to come back at your previous status.

Like maybe, DirectX 9c, video card last driver version etc etc.

Does that error message mean "32-bit color depth," or "32-bit operating system mode?"

Suggestions:

In general:
-- a. Start Revelation from a fresh boot.
----- 1. Reboot, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications.
----- 2. Also disable all anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up programs running in the background.
----- 3. Do NOT run any other programs before starting Revelation.
-- b. Use the Desktop Revelation start icon, NOT the menu item on Disc 2 (the Revelation start disc).
-- c. Do NOT boot up with Revelation Disc 2 in the drive, or with any disc in the drive.
-- d. If Disc 2 autostarts when you insert it into the drive, cancel back to the Desktop.
-- e. Enable the Run as administrator option for Revelation. See How to use User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista, under How to run a program as an administrator.
-- f. Turn *off* Windows Aero before starting Revelation.
----- 1. Right-click on a blank area of the Desktop, then click on Personalize.
----- 2. Click on Windows Color and Appearance > Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
----- 3. Under Color scheme, select Windows Vista Basic.
----- 4. Click on OK.

1. Install the latest drivers from Dell for your video and sound chipsets.
-- a. For your video chipset and Vista, this is "Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller, Driver", version 7.14.10.1322, R167384.EXE, released 10/10/2007, available here. See the Installation Instructions at the bottom of the download page.

-- b. For your sound chipset and Vista, this is "Realtek ALC888 HD Audio, Driver", version 6.0.1.5408, R155944.EXE, released 6/17/2007, available here. See the Installation Instructions at the bottom of the download page.

2. Verify that your Desktop color depth is set to 32-bit.
-- a. Right-click on a blank area of the Desktop, then click on Properties in the resulting drop-down menu.
-- b. Click on the Settings tab.
-- c. Under Color quality, select Highest (32 bit).
-- d. Click on Apply > OK.

3. Install Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). See How to obtain the latest Windows Vista service pack.

4. Re-install Revelation from a clean boot.
-- a. Uninstall Revelation using the Windows Add or Remove Programs utility.
-- b. Do step 1 in How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista.
-- c. Re-install Revelation. Install on your C: drive, not on D:.
-- d. Do step 7 in How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista.
-- e. If Revelation doesn't start properly, apply the Revelation patches, available here. I recommend applying the 1.02 patch and then the 1.03 patch. The 1.02 patch is 41.1 MB, while the 1.03 patch is only 15.4 MB, which may mean there's "good stuff" included in 1.02 that isn't included in 1.03.
-- f. And/or Start and run Revelation in Compatibility Mode. See How to start the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows Vista.
