Hi
I've been trying to install Myst IV on my Ibook G4 using Mac OS X tiger version 10.4.10 but the installer just starts then quits after a few seconds. Can anyone help? |

Do you get an error message of any sort? Does your Mac meet the requirements of the user manual, page 4, namely the approved video cards (ATI Radeon 7500 - 9000 or better, and NVIDIA Geforce 2/4/FX families or better)?
Have you visited this website for the Mac patches? ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

Thanks for the reply. I don't get any error messages and my mac meets all the requirements,I have a Radeon 9250 gpu. I Have not visited the Mac Patches site though, ill do that now.

Of course the patches don't do you any good until after you have installed Myst IV from the DVDs... sorry about that, but at least if you do solve the installation problem, you will have them. Actually, you only need the 1.00 - 1.03 patch; it includes the 1.01 content.
Can you describe how far into the installation process it goes? Do you get past "I agree" to the license? ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

Yeh, I realised that you need to actually have the game installed to use the patches aswell
The installation does not really start at all. The little myst iv icon appears in the bottom of the dashboard but then quits allmost immediatly. Thanks for your help Wstrohm. |

First, run Disk Utility and do "Repair Permissions." Then, if you have Cocktail, choose "Pilot" and let it do everything, including clearing the kernel cache. If you don't have it, it is free and I've used it successfully to solve problems. If that doesn't work, you might consider buying (if you don't have it) TechTool Pro 4, using it to create an "e-Drive" partition, and then running the Volume and File tests, plus the Directory Maintenance tool.
If the above utilities don't fix the problem, I have no further suggestions. My Dual 2.7 GHz G5 PPC desktop has never had trouble installing Myst IV. BTW, is there a file called "vpd.properties" on your hard disk anywhere? The Myst IV installer puts that there. If you try re-installations, you should trash that file first. Its presence can mess up later re-installations. ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

Ok. I'll try all those things wstrohm. Thanks so much for all your help. If this does not work I can always go back to exile. Thanks again.

Barbellion,
Check out the link in my reply to your post in the other thread on this subject. It might help. ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

Hi Barbellion
I have not been on this forum for ages, but I still remember asking this question. Unfortunately even with Wstrohm's fantastic help, I was unable to get Revelation up and running. I believe it had something to do with the latest version of Mac OS X being incompatible with the game. I hope that was somewhat helpful. |

For whatever it's worth, I added a new folder on my hard disk titled "Myst IV Test Setup," dragged the "MystIV_Setup.app" file from the DVD into it, and following the instructions on-screen, directed it to install Myst IV into that new folder. I went as far as the window which says the game will be installed into that folder and will use 3.335 GBytes, then I manually cancelled the installation. This is running my 2.7 GHz dual CPU PPC Power Mac under OS X v 10.4.11. So the Myst IV installation program will work under that OS (on my computer).

Thanks wstrohm. Still not working for me but you've gone above and beyond the call of duty to help me out. God knows why the installer is working for you - good to know that it is not the OSX installation doing it. If it wasn't for the other user getting this problem I'd think it was me going mad!
I'll post if I get an update, thanks again. |
