I've got a DVD-ROM LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S and I'm planning to buy Myst IV. I heard there were some problems with some DVD-roms. After scrolling down the forum, I found the list of devices, which have problems with Revelation:

Compaq SD-616T DVD-ROM

DG Electronics GDR8162B

Dynex DVD-ROM

Ilsonic DVD Burner

iMac SuperDrive

LG GSA-4081B and LG drives in general

LITE-ON COMBO LTC-48161 H (Dell Dimension 8200)

Lite-On LTD163

Lite-On DVD+RW SOHW-8225 (HP OEM)

NEC DVD (Dell Dimension 8200)

NEC DV-5700A (Dell Dimension XPS B1000, 11/2000 purchase date)

NEC DV-5800A

NEC ND-1000A DVD Burner

NEC ND-3450A (Dell Demension 8400)

Philips DVD+RW-D01 v1.41 (Purchased Aug 2002, Dell 8200)

Pioneer DVD-115R

Pioneer DVD-116A <fixed by firmware upgrade>

Pioneer DVR107d

Plextor PX-708A

Ricoh RW5125

Samsung CDRW/DVD SM308B Combo Drive

Samsung SM-352F (Dell Dimension 8400)

Sony DVD+RW 8x Dual Layer (Dell Inspiron 8200)

Teac DVD+RW DV (W58E Dell Dimension 4600)

Toshiba SD-M1612

Is it possible that my LITE-ON wouldn't be able to read or run Myst IV?
Thanks in advace

Yes, it's possible. Especially since Lite-On sells their drives to other OEM's, who put their own badges on them. What this means is that one or more of the drives in the list may actually be a Lite-On SOHW-1633S.

At the very least, you should update the drive's firmware to the latest version. To find a firmware update, go to your PC or drive manufacturer's website. Or, go to CDRinfo's firmware page. Select drive type > manufacturer > model to find your firmware.
----- 1. Make very certain that you know *exactly* which model drive you have. Installing the wrong firmware on a drive is almost guaranteed to kill it.
----- 2. Follow the firmware installation instructions *carefully*. In particular, do NOT run any programs or access the Internet, or shut down your PC, while the firmware update is in progress.

I don't have the model number on-hand, but for what it's worth, I ran Revelation off of a Lite-on DVD+/-RW drive with no difficulties (or if I did have to update the firmware, I don't remember it).

Thanks a lot guys. I'll upgrade my firmware and maybe buy the game when it gets cheaper in Poland. I don't have a lot of money. Don't want to risk, lol.
